Before I freak out and call the pediatrician......
First time mom here. My daughter will be a week old tomorrow. I just changed her diaper and there was a small drop of bright red blood right where her vagina touches the diaper. Is this normal?!?! HELP!

Normal! Newborn girls can actually menstruate even though no one seems to warn you of this. It's something to do with your hormones being passed to her.

I was told this could happen by our pediatrician. I'm sure it is unnerving to see, but it is normal.

It's normal!! I'm surprised they didn't warn you of it in the hospital. It's like a "first period" all hormonal.

No one told me either until the last day in the hospital when I was changing DD's diaper and saw a tinge of blood. I yelled for the nurse who was like, yeah that's totally normal. Well thanks for warning me!

Newborn boys can also have some nipple discharge as well.
