2 bedroom villa with full kitchen off disney property. About 15 mins drive to parks.

OR

art of animation little mermaid room which, if youre not familiar, is just a room no kitchen or extra space.

We dont want this trip to be in your face disney. We want to relax a bit but still have easy access to parks.

I keep going back and forth. The villa is great with extra space but the ME makes everything sooo convenient airport wise and we can use disney transportation.

Have you ever stayed at AOA? The rooms are TINY. The door hits the bed when you open it. The bus stop and main building are a FAR walk. The bus lines are super long. So if these are your only two choices, I would choose off site, even though I find it super inconvenient to get to the MK while staying off site.

We've never stayed at AoA but ive read reviews and know about the distance. I could spring for a Cars suite i suppose but that would be an addl $700 over the week stay. Worth it?

Versus AOA, I totally agree.

We did just this on our last trip and it was fine going back and forth to the parks. Only MK was annoying, but we knew it going in and it was only one day. No biggie.

I just find that the value of staying on property really diminishes when you can't walk or take a boat or monorail to the parks. JMHO. There is no line to get to my car in the morning, KWIM?

Why don't you look into renting DVC points? You can get a 1 or 2 bedroom villa on property. You'll get the space of a villa and the convenience of staying on property (i.e., magical express, access to extra magic hours and the disney dining plan, etc.)

I've stayed in the Little Mermaid room and would never do it again. Yes, we were only there to sleep, but oh my - to get in and out of that room with a stroller was the BIGGEST headache because of how small it was. Not to mention that due to the fact that it is a value hotel, the towels and toilet paper are like sandpaper.

Excellent points! And after further discussion with DH if we stayed off property we'd rent a car and can do a beach day too which i think would be a nice break from the parks.

I don't think, because you still have full size beds (not queens), crappy toiletries, cheap toilet paper, thin towels, etc.

Definitely off site.

We stayed at AOA on our last trip and thought the resort was seriously lacking.

On our previous trip, we stayed at the Four Seasons Orlando off site and it was amazing. It was only 10 min away.

Keep in mind that the nearest beach, Cocoa Beach, is not close. I think it's an hour, maybe an hour and 15 minute drive each way. It would probably be a more relaxing day to hang out at your resort pool.

Just keep in mind that, if you are taking your car to the parks each day, there is a $17 parking fee. I always prefer staying on property or staying close to Downtown Disney. However, I've never been to the AOA, but it does sound like close quarters.

I would stay onsite but maybe a different hotel after hearing the reviews of AOA. We recently stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and enjoyed it. It's not fancy but it definitely wasn't bad. Room wasn't huge but big enough for a double stroller and a pack n play set up. I would stay there again and I'm very picky with hotels. Price wasn't bad. Can you see how much more it would be?

I've stayed in the Cars suites twice and we've really liked the experience. But if you don't want in your face Disney than AOA is probably not for you and certainly not the Mermaid rooms. In your situation I would stay offsite.
