Convertible Cribs

Does anyone know offhand if you really need to buy the conversion kits to turn your crib into a full size bed? I was wondering if I could just use those standard metal frames you can buy when you buy a mattress? I know I have had them before and my headboard connected to it.

Does anyone have any experience??

Re: Convertible Cribs

Didn't work for us. We tried that, but the headboard wouldn't fit. We got a convertible crib and never bought the conversion kit. Well, almost 6 years later (DS1 had it and then we moved him into his big boy room with new furniture at 2.5 and DS2 had it after) we realized we need it. DH made the frame and stained the wood. Wasn't easy, but came out great. When we did the metal frame neither would fit in so We removed the headboard and foot board for a while till DH completed our own version of the conversion kit.

That sucks. I was trying to avoid having to pay extra for that right now. Thanks

Depends on the crib. The manufacturer of mine said that you could use the standard metal frames and attach it to the headboard/footboard.

For DS, I used an after-market metal frame, but had to buy an after market adapter kit to make the frame fit the headboard and footboard.

Same for us. We just bought the conversion kit to the full size bed though - we did not buy the conversion kit to the toddler bed. We bought a separate toddler bed for $30 instead. We just converted DS's crib to the full size and the conversion kit was super easy. It's worth the extra money now.
