How long does it take your infant to fall asleep?

Just curious...

My guy is 6.5 months old. We did a little bit of cry it out with him a few weeks ago and overall he's sleeping better and getting up less but my god bedtime is still a bit of a struggle. It takes him a solid 30 mins or longer to fall asleep after I put him down in his crib and I end up having to go back in to his room once or twice to replace his paci before he finally relents.

I'm hoping one day I might be able to put him down and just have him quietly fall asleep after a few minutes! Bedtime gives me such anxiety!

Sometimes de falls asleep right away, sometimes she could be up babbling and pacing her crib for a solid 30 minutes. I just don't go in. I don't think it has to be after a few minutes to be successful and easy.

I don't fall asleep within a few minutes of getting into bed....

Bedtime is super quick for dd. I pretty much nurse her to sleep, then put on her sleepsack and give a quick cuddle to wake her a bit before putting her in the crib and she passed back out within a minute or two despite the fact that my 3 year old is often yapping away a few feet from her. Naps are definitely not as easy but if she's just the right amount of tired she'll just doze off wherever, whenever.

Most days 20-30 minutes. Tonight because he was tired it was 5-10 minutes.

If he is up when I lay him down, 10 minutes max of him tossing and turning and cooing. Very rarely cries. I am extraordinarily lucky. He usually falls asleep nursing and has no issues switching to the crib and he usually sttn.... The last week or so has been off, a little, but I think that was more a reaction to my grandma passing and us being off than anything else.

DS is 6.5 months too and he either falls asleep on my shoulder while I am burping him. Or within5-10 minutes after I lay him down, super quick and no tears

It always depended on whether they were ready to get to sleep--for us bedtime was within 4 hours of waking from the last nap. If I tried too early it was a long time to get them to sleep. Also, around this age they become much more aware of their surroundings (and realizing they can protest things), and teething, etc. impacts as well. Even now my DD is almost 12 months and she takes at least 15-30 minutes to get to sleep depending on how tired she is.

My 10 month old used to fall asleep almost instantly. Now he usually lays there a bit with his blanket and relaxes. Last night I was watching him roll around his crib for almost 30 minutes! Long as he isn't crying it's okay.

DD is 8 months - all depends on how tired or overtired she is. She gets her bottle with DH in the dark with her lullaby music on. After the bottle it'll probably take her 10 minutes on average to fall asleep. Some nights are worse if she's over tired and cranky.

Naps are the same thing. Sometimes she'll put her head down on my shoulder as I'm walking her back to her room - other times I have to hold her in multiple positions to get her to calm down and take the binky.

Maybe try putting him down a little later so you know he is good and tired? I read in one of my sleep books that by 6 months you should try to reduce going into their rooms as going in can confuse them. I know it's just to give a pacifier but that's enough to make them wonder "when does Mommy come in". It also said try to break the habit completely by 9 months as that's when it gets harder to break habits.
At 6.5 months DD could take anywhere from 5-20 minutes to fall asleep. Sometimes she would cry, sometimes she would go right down. Unless she was hysterical for over 20 minutes I just let her work it out. She didn't have a pacifier but if she needed to sooth she would put her fingers in her mouth and fall asleep that way. That technique worked well for us.

Now at 20 months, DD can take up to 30 minutes to fall asleep, but she is usually quietly laying there tapping her hand or sitting up playing with her lamb. Sometimes she will cry for a minute or two while we bring her upstairs and put her in her crib. The crying almost always stops when we leave the room, as she has learned once we are gone we don't come back.

We gave in once and the whole next week she cried when we put her down. It's crazy how fast they learn.
