6 month old nap advice

Hi all,

DS is 6 months old and has been a crappy sleeper since day 1 pretty much - partially my own fault because he has MSPI and was VERY colicky the first few months as I was working all of his dietary sensitivities out of my diet so we did a ton of babywearing, cosleeping and rocking to sleep. His nighttime sleep has improved after resorted to CIO a few weeks ago but he just will not nap in his crib!! When i am able to put him down in his crib it's only after spending at least 20 mins reading and rocking him completely to sleep and then he wakes right up after 30 mins every time - you can practically set an alarm to it. Once we started sleep training at night, I stopped trying to force him to nap in his crib, it just wasn't worth the time and struggle. He will sleep like a champ if i wear him in the baby carrier, in the car or in the stroller but will not nap in his crib.

I fear I am doing him a disservice by not creating some sort of nap routine for him but I just don't know if I have it in me to let him CIO for his daytime sleep too. Has anyone else had experience with LOs who just never napped in their crib at this age? Did it improve as they got older and dropped naps? Or am I destined to wear him around in a carrier until he's 2.

6 month old nap advice

DD is 13 months and I can count on one hand the number of times she has napped in her crib. She has been a pretty amazing night sleeper so it is what it is. During the week, she naps at daycare and I honestly don't know where she naps. On the weekends, she will nap on either DH or myself or in the car. Not ideal but it works for us.

My dd was a great nighttime sleeper! (12 hrs from 6 months in her crib) She NEVER napped in the crib. She literally napped in the swing until she was 13 months! Then she switched to the pack and play until she gave up naps recently. I picked my battle on that one, and it worked for us.

6 month old nap advice

My DS never napped in his crib. He would nap on the floor in the living room or on the couch or when he was really little in the rock n play. It never even crossed my mind that it was an issue. My DS was very colicy but became aprety good sleeper later on. I don't force sleep on him though. We basically let him dictate his nap schedule from day one. He just played til he fell asleep.

Don't get hung up on what we all think is correct.....do what works for you and your DC....it will all work out!
