Thoughts… Paradisus Palma Real and The Reserve Paradisus

This is going to be the first time going on vacation without DH and only with DS (besides trips to my country during the summer). DH needs to work, so he can't join us. My mom is joining us.

We booked at the Reserve Paradisus in Punta Cana (for a vacatont starting this Friday 4/03), but last Sunday we got an email saying that because they were overbooked, they had 'upgraded' us to Paradisus Palma Real (not the Reserve). I was looking forward to the Reserve area because of the private pool and the restaurants we could have access to. We got upset because we feel they were trying to put it as an 'upgrade' when it really is not and, to make things worse, we looked and they really weren't overbooked because on Sunday night, there were still rooms available (in the same category we booked).

DH searched for stories, and it seems it is a common practice and, although we wrote asking them to respect our original reservation (no answers yet… they said the 'managers' are still seeing my case and others similar - that was today at 4 pm), at this point I just want to get a nice room and enjoy some relaxing time.

My questions… Has this happened to anyone here? Is it really an upgrade and we are making nonsense? (for those that have experienced any of these hotels) Thoughts?

Thank you!

I could be wrong but the reserve looks like it has a lot for kids. Just looking online (never been). I would want to know what the other place offers.

Re: Thoughts… Paradisus Palma Real and The Reserve Paradisus

I got married at the Paradisus Palma Real. I stayed at the reserve section and many of my guests stayed at the main hotel. There is also a Paradisus Punta Cana (also with a reserve) but it is a whole other resort so I'm a little confused by your post. Were you booked at the Paradisus Punta Cana reserve and upgraded to the PPR (regular not reserve)? If so, I think that is an upgrade because palma real is nicer than Paradisus Punta cana on the whole. The reserve does offer more kids stuff, additional restaurants and a quieter atmosphere but it's a matter of preference because there are downsides. (I.e. You have to take a golf cart to the beach). If we went back we would probably skip the reserve because our kids are now 7 and 9, but it depends on how old your ds is. The reserve pool is more geared for younger kids (under 5).

All our guests loved PPR and so did we...you can't go wrong either way!

Thanks a lot! Yes, exactly... We booked at Paradisus Punta Cana Reserve and got upgraded to Paradisus Palma Real (regular one, no reserve). Your words are comforting, since DS is 9 and I guess he will be with me the whole time, skipping the kids club, and wanting to go back and forward from the pool to the beach.

The PPR will work great for you then. We spent most of our time at the regular pool since most of our guests were there. All the kids (ages 4-14) had a blast. The beach is huge and beautiful too.
