I'm not sure what is going on????

I am a first time paranoid mom so please bear with me. My DS will be 11 months tomorrow. He has always been a strong-willed (but generally happy) baby, but lately he has been off and I can't tell if something is legitimately wrong or if DH and I are just in for it. For the past month or so he has been very whiney and tips his head a lot. I have taken him to the doctor twice to rule out an ear infection, but they said he was just teething. He has gone on two nursing strikes and has been a nightmare when it comes to solids. Then, for the past week or so, he has started to flip his **@## and goes into hysterics about EVERYTHING. He honestly sounds like a drowning cat and he has real tears so I don't think he is just manipulating us to get his way. I usually pick him up to try and soothe him, but then he will push and kick against me. I am just at a loss and am so frustrated and sad for him. Could this be teething? Can discomfort last over a month? Would you be concerned that there is something else wrong? I honestly just don't know what to do at this point.

TIA

I'm not sure what is going on????

He could be cutting teeth. Have you seen his gums? Are they swollen, hard and white? Try giving him infant Motrin

My boys really only got like that when they were gettint teeth.

ETA - not like they are perfect angel children, but I mean that inconsolable "WHAT the HELL is wrong I've tried everything - are you posessed ?? !!" Kind of misery - It's always been teeth - and it lasted a about a week.
Mortin all the way !!

DS threw tantrums like that for a little while. You have to remember that he is starting to understand that he can have preferences and he's also figuring out his feelings, but he can't communicate them clearly. Kids throw crazy tantrums sometimes. I found that when DS was hungry, the tantrum would be worse- sometimes he'd just throw himself on the floor and scream for no reason. He still does on occasion (he just turned 2) when he's really hungry or sick. It might be teething, or it might be a phase. Either way, it will pass. Try everything you can and you should find something that works- for me, it was holding him really tight (even when he was kicking around and trying to get down) and singing. Eventually he would stop fighting and hug me and calm down so I could get some food in his system.

Try an amber teething necklace. Teething was basically nothing for us because of it. My dd is 2.5 now and recently she had a low fever and was acting off. We went to doc and she saw her 2yo molars coming in. So I put the necklace back on and she's been fine ever since. I swear it's like magic. On the nights where she was suffering I would also give a bit of motrin too.

Always always follow your instinct though. If you think something is off keep going back to the doc until you figure it out!

Sounds like my son who just turned 1. He has always been difficult. He is cranky, moody, whiney, sensitive. He recently started with stranger anxiety and throwing a fit if I have to walk out of the room for a second. I am praying he grows out of it. It is exhausting. Our o ly possible cause other than personality (god please no) is he has reoccurring ear infections and often has fluid in his ears. We go back to ent in may to decide if he needs tubes. Good luck

Oh my almost year old DD gets like this. Drives me insane, nothing I do makes her happy. I think it's part teething and part not being able to convey feelings.

dd1 started with tantrums at 1. I wouldn't rule that out lol. They lasted until 2 1/2 (big time tantrums). Also teeth really make them wild. You just never know. See if tylenol or advil help. If one dose helps then its teeth if not I'd say he's becoming a toddler lol

Re: I'm not sure what is going on????

This happened with my DD around the same age and she was cutting teeth as well. I kept taking her to the pediatrician to have her ears checked and there was fluid but not infection. I really try to not give her medicine so we tried camilia which is homeopathic and an amber teething necklace which only helped slightly. I ended up telling my chiropractor about what was going on and she said that I should bring her in to get her evaluated. She explained to me that the adjustments would help relax her nervous system and she used some massage technique to help get rid of the fluid without having to give her medication. After a few treatments she was a different kid. Now I just bring her in every so often for a check up. When she starts cutting a new tooth, back to the chiropractor we go. Give it a try. I found this to be the only thing that worked.
