Should I be concerned?
My three year old is very smart and communicative. However, she does not have correct pronunciation. She cannot pronounce certain words, such as "three" "thirteen" and others, correctly. It is hard to understand her. For example, she was saying "voice" the other day, but it sounds like she said "boys." Is this normal and totally fine, or should I consider a speech eval? If so, how does one go about getting that?

If you are having trouble understanding her a lot of the time then get an eval. You would go through your school district since she is 3 yrs old.

I would say that's totally normal. Some words are harder to say than others. My girl says 'free' when she means 'three'.

I think that's normal. The letter v is hard for them. My son will be 3 in a couple of weeks and his name is Kevin. He calls himself Kebin.

My dds EI teacher said they start looking at pronunciation at 3. Idk how far into 3 they expect it. Is she in nursery school where you can ask a teacher. You can always call the SD and see what they say. They would have a better idea of when milestones should be hit.

Some words being pronounced wrong is expected at 3. However if you are having a hard time understanding some of what she says than maybe an evaluation wouldn't hurt.

If it's just some certain isolated words, I wouldn't worry. But if it seems pervasive, then definitely ask for an eval. Cpse will service articulation issues, but cse (which would be the committee once she hits kindergarten/age 5) often does not address artic. unless really significantly interfering with learning, so best to look into it now.

Those errors are common for a 3yo. If you are concerned though you can go through your school district and CPSE.

If a child qualified for just Speech through the district at 3, do they provide the services at your home or do you have to bring them to the school?

I agree. I think its normal for a three year old. My son is 4.5 and he still mispronounces a few words (he says berry instead of very).

My dd had trouble pronouncing thirteen too. She did not qualify for speech at ages three or four, but now in kindergarten she takes speech. For my dd it is only articulation, not cognitive, which is why she did not qualify earlier.
