Has anyone's DC ever had molluscum?

My younger DS seems to have contracted mollescum through daycare.

I was wondering if anyone else's DC has had it and what their experiences were? Mainly - what medications did you use and how long did it take to clear up?

ETA - All of the people I have spoken to who have had experience had a rough go of it - so I'm hoping to hear some more positive stories.

DD had it and it took about 6 months to get rid of. Such a pain. Our ped just said to wait it out. We waited for months and even the first one hadn't gone away. Finally DH got some tea tree oil and started adding that to her baths. Within 2 weeks they started going away and very soon after they were gone. We still use it bc it also seems to help DD's eczema.

Omg..... We are in molluscum hell as we speak!!!!!
DD has had it about 2 mos. We recently took her to a dermatologist for it, as it's gotten so bad. The apple cider vinegar did nothing, all the stuff you read online does nothing for it! Derm put her on oral antihistamine to stop the itchiness, plus a steroid cream to first address the eczema that developed around it (they go hand in hand sometimes) and antibiotic cream for any open ones. We go back next week, where they are likely going to rx Aldara, and see how that works or will use Cantharone on the bigger ones .

Ugh! DS has it AGAIN now. He had it about a year and a half ago and it completely went away in about 3 months. Now he has it again for the past couple of weeks. I have just been waiting it out but will be taking him to a dermatologist in the next week if it doesn't get any better. I did notice today that it's a little better than it has been.

Pediatricians said oh it'll run it's course, nothing to do that isn't painful so just leave it alone. He had a few bumps on his torso.

Well.

They spread down his torso and onto his back. We started with Apple cider vinegar late in the game. I put it on cotton balls and taped the cotton balls onto his skin. It dried them out because the vinegar was on the bumps directly. Took forever because when one would go away another one would pop up 4 inches over

So annoying

My daughter had it. Thankfully nothing too bad. Looked like little pimples. Derm said nothing you can do unless it gets really bad and then sometimes they freeze them off. But that would be painful.
She wasn't bothered by them. She only had a few on the side of her leg/knee.
It is very contagious. Had to wash towels everyday and wash the bathtub after each use.
Derm also said it could last a year.
My DD definitely had it for at least 6-8months.

we are dealing with it now. My so has had it since November. A pretty large cluster but only on the back of his leg. No pain associated with the actual cluster, no itchiness, etc. So we have been leaving it alone.

But with summer coming, there will be now way for me to cover it. And I am afraid bc its behind his knee that with sweating it will cause him to want to scratch which will most likely cause it to spread.

So we took him to the dermatologist. They treat it with beetlejuice. This causes it to blister and triggers a response from your body's immune system. He had the treatment yesterday and within 3-4 hours there were blisters. They were uncomfortable last night but seem okay today. We will see how it goes from here.

GL. I had never heard of it but apparently its pretty common! Yet it can stick around for months or years! Yuck!

Not my DC, but I actually had it many years ago, before DC. I dealt with it for years & years...on my neck because one derm said to leave it alone. I went to a new one, within seconds the liquid nitrogen was out and he burned it off. I think I had one or two more treatments after that & then haven't had a problem since.

I'm sure liquid nitrogen is not something they're going to be eager about using on a child, but it was the only thing that worked for me as an adult.

I too was in Mulluscum hell, and still am! DD#2 got it around 3 years old, and now that she is almost 6, it is pretty much gone...yes...lasted about 3 years!!!!!

I read everything I could on the internet. FWIR, they are only contagious during stage 3, which is when they get really big and seem to have the dimple in the middle. Even rubbing lotion on their own bodies after a bath can spread it to other parts of the body during this period. My DDs did share a bath for most of the time that DD#2 had it. DD#1 only started getting a few bumps during the last year, I guess as we were in stage 3.

DD#2's did get infected, and she needed to be hospitalized for IV antibiotics. But this is because she has special needs, and wouldn't keep a bandaid on to keep any of them covered when they broke open. She essentially scratched one or two, and some bacteria (normal bacteria on the skin) got underneath and caused a serious infection. After that cleared up, I treated all that started infection with Bactroban (not bacitracin) and no more seemed to get infected. I tried all of the home remedies; none of them worked. Maybe because she is special needs and couldn't tolerate things like cotton balls being left taped on or things like that.

DS also got it (and he never shared a bath or a towel with DDs). He got it around 3 months old. The only thing I can figure is that either DD touched him after rubbing one of hers (cause it started on his wrist, so she may have grabbed his hand), or I may have used the same bucket to rinse them in the bathtub.

I addressed it at several doctor appointments. The ped would never do anything. The derm eventually "burned" off about 12 from DD#2 that he thought would cause her trouble. He would NOT touch any on or around her face or neck, because he said that it would most likely leave a scar.

I will be bringing DD#2 to the derm next month to have hers looked at and burned off her legs and belly (she probably has about 12 bumps to take care of) before summer comes.

My friend's daughter had this and she used Apple Cider vinegar on it every day (on a cotton ball and dab it on each spot), and it worked wonders she said. ACV works for A LOT of skin issues, even better than tea tree oil, so I would try it. Braggs with the Mother in it is a great one to try.
