Pumping

I have EBF my son for 5.5 months now and just came back to work. I'm pumping using a freestyle and it will usually take me 30 minutes to pump what I need (between 4-5 oz). Anyone have any idea how I can pump this amount in about 15 minutes?? I'm pumping 3 times a day in the office but it's just too much time away from my desk.

A friend of mine has the Pump in style that I can borrow ... Do you guys think this pump is more efficient than the freestyle?

Would appreciate any tips. Thanks!

Re: Pumping

I went from EBF my son until about 5 months, to then pumping at work. It took a few weeks for my body to adjust and go from needing to pump 30 minutes to being able to get a similar amount to 15 minutes. I've been using a hospital grade pump (the Symphony), that my job thankfully rents for the new moms to use, so I think that helps. One thing that I've found helps me is the first let down happens in first few minutes. Once that's done, I stop the pump, give it a few minutes and start it up again, usually a second let down happens (smaller but still)

For me, it was really getting adjusted to it. I also started preparing things better - for example, when I finish the first pump, I'll get the parts ready w/ the bottles for the next one so I can literally come in, put on the bra and go.

Pumping

I get 5 ounces in 10 minutes every 3 hours with my medela pump in style.

I love the pump in style. I have had great success with it so far.

Is your office private? Maybe trying pumping at your desk if possible

Pumping

I use the In style as well, I get about 6 oz in my first pump in the morning and then 4-5oz with each subsequent pumping (I try to get at least 2 others in, just so that I can keep up with DS's demand, that boy is HUNGRY). I usually set the timer on my phone for 15 minutes. Honestly, even if I were to sit there for 30 minutes, I wouldn't get any more out.

No, I'm on an open floor and need to go down to a different floor to pump in our lactation room.

Do you guys change back to the quick suction after 10 minutes or leave it on the regular setting the whole time. I've read about doing this to promote another let down.

After about 10 minutes or so, whenever it seems as though I've got nothing else coming out, I give it a few minutes break, then restart and I do get another let down, but it doesn't last very long.

Pumping

I think that a different pump can help, but the amount of time that you need to pump for is really dependent on your body. There are a couple of things that you can try in order to empty quicker. Try applying heat packs before and during pumping. I use the Lansinoh 3-in-1 Pearl Therapy packs. They attach right to the flanges while you're pumping. You can also pick up a supplement called Lecithin. That helps thin our your milk. It's generally used to prevent clogs, but it also helps you empty quicker. Take 3-4 1200mg pills/day.

Do you have a laptop at work? I just pick up my computer and bring it with me to my pumping room so I can still work. I EP for twins so I was pumping for 30 minutes 3 times/work day when I first went back. I had to find a way to not lose working hours when I was in the office.
