carseats and traveling
for some reason I can't figure this out.
we are going to aruba. I have a 5 month old and 23 month old. we got a seat for my older child.
do we carry two carseats through the airport and just gate check my 5 month old's seat bc he'll be on our lap?
I've heard about the harness type thing for the plane, but then don't you still need a carseat for when you get there?
what about stroller?
i'm really clueless. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Technically, you could check all car seats and strollers when you check in. Then you wouldn't have to lug all that through the airport. Or your 2 yr old could sit in the car seat on the plane and if your flight isn't full, you can put your 5mo in a car seat in an empty seat on the plane. If you discover flight is full, you can gate check it. Stroller can be gate checked as well if you feel that it would be useful to have it walking through airport. If you are afraid of damage, your best bet is gate checking all items. I would not rent a car seat from a car rental company. You wont know the condition its in.

I personally wouldn't check a car seat after watching not only videos of baggage handlers tossing them around like they're nothing but also seeing it from my airplane window.
When we traveled with DD, she was 5.5 months old. She sat in our laps but we had arrangements with family at our destination to have a car seat there for us -- it was DH's cousin's son who had outgrown it.
ETA: Same goes for gate checking.

I am traveling with DS who is 26 months and I am bringing his car seat but I will be checking it at the gate. Yes they get thrown etc... but these car seats are made sturdy enough for impact so I am not too worried.

Will you be renting a car. There is a taxi service I believe that has carseats in Aruba.

When we traveled with my DS we checked the car seat and stroller at the gate (he flew as a lap child)

we have transportation from the airport to the hotel. not sure if they have seats. I can ask our travel agent.
I'm fine with gate checking all of this stuff, I just can't imagine us lugging all of this stuff through the airport.
also, do you think its a bad idea to only bring a single stroller. I really don't want to bring our double. its huge!
i don't think we'll be using the stroller too much in Aruba bc we'll mostly be at the beach and pool
