help me please! (rhode island/massachusetts related)
My DD's 3rd birthday and our 5 year wedding anniversary are one day apart. So we were thinking instead of a party for her, we'd combine celebrations and go away for those 2 days plus maybe an extra day or two. Make a 3 to 4 day vacation out of it. We want to keep it within driving distance and have some stuff to keep her entertained (she will probably just like seeing new things and going out to eat, but 1 or 2 her events would be nice. at least a pool or something) while having fun ourselves. We were debating maybe rhode island or massachusetts but have no idea what areas within those states are even good. Any suggestions??

Bostron has a great childrens museum. You can combine that with Newport on the way back, if it's back. There you can tour the lighthouse, mansions, etc.

What time of year? Boston is great for kids. There's the childrens museum and the swan boats if it's in a warmer weather month. There's also the aquarium. And like pp mentioned, some nice spots to stop on the way home.

What about Baltimore? Or philly?
Baltimore has an amazing aquarium, science museum, paddle boats in the harbor, great seafood, tour Camden yards and they let you on the field and dugouts.

Mystic, CT or Newport, RI would be fun. You could also stay somewhere around Westerly, RI and have access to both plus the other cute coastal towns along Route 1. There's also Block Island, RI which you can reach via ferry from Montauk I believe.
I don't have as much experience with these but I visited Salem, MA for a couple days and loved it. Cape Cod is great too. I would also love to get to Nantucket, MA some time because I've heard it's gorgeous.
Have fun! All these areas are by the beaches and will be beautiful in August.
