Reoccurring ear infections

For those of you who have LOs who get ear infections, did the ear infection typically clear on their own or did you tend to need antibiotics?

DD had an ear infection 3 weeks ago. Caught it early, but it was still recommended to put her on amoxicillin for 10 days. Now I am pretty sure DD has another one. Started noticing it Friday night. The Dr. on call said it could clear on its own and as long as she is eating and drinking to try to let it run its course.

How long can this pain last? She is eating, drinking, and sleeping. How long would you wait it out?

Reoccurring ear infections

I would not wait it out. If my child is diagnosed with an ear infection I am getting them on an antibiotic asap. My little guy is 11 months and has had 5 ear infections already and took antibiotic every time.

Reoccurring ear infections

My mom and I were just having this conversation. I had monthly ear infections for almost 3 years (no hearing or ear issues now). I never complained though, she would Bring me in for well visits and the ped would yell at her. Always gave me antibiotics.

Re: Reoccurring ear infections

My DD had 3 consecutive ear infections within 3 months. Took her to an ENT and she said antibiotics weren't always necessary. I'm pretty sure she had an ear infection last week and just gave her Tylenol. She had a fever, and a tooth coming through, so it could have just been teething too. That lasted about 4 days. We have another ENT appointment on 3/4 to get a second opinion.

DD is just about 17 months.

My son had this and we used warmed garlic and haylands ear infection drops from cvs. Once we did that they completely stopped. Antibiotics were useless and caused more problems. I did this under the supervision of my son's pediatrician.

Reoccurring ear infections

My 11 month old just got over her 3rd EI. She had pretty high fevers from Friday-Sunday. Sunday went to Dr. and her ears were fine but she had 104.4 and neg. flu test as well. Went back on Monday since she was leaning her head to one side and sure enough, EI and still a temp around 102. After 1 day of abx (zithromax), she was fever free for the first time in 4 days!

I'm sure she's had EI before that went away on their own but she was noticeably sick and her fevers were concerning since she never really has them so I was glad to give her something.

I have heard people having success with Chiropractics to help with ear infections. Also an onion muff. You can google it for instructions but basically you cut and onion in half and peel out the inner rings to make a cup. Heat on 350 for 10m till warm and cuff on the infected ear.
