Godparent gifts
My DH has been asked to be the godfather of his niece. I'm Jewish so I'm not exactly sure how these things work. From what I've seen on these boards, the godfather traditionally buy the cross right? I have a couple of questions about that since I'm going to be the one picking it out. 1- do you buy an infant necklace or a larger one for her to grow into? I was thinking maybe a pretty infant bracelet for the christening and a full size cross for later? 2- I figured we would buy 14k white gold, but I'm seeing that silver is more traditional. Should I go with gold or silver? 3- am I also supposed to get the rosary beads too?

Traditionally the Godfather buys the cross. I would suggest getting an adult size. Hopefully she will have it forever and wear it into adult hood. The child will be blessed wearing it. At least this is how mine and my husband's family see it. You could get other pieces as well like a bracelet. As far as type of metAl, there is no rule. Get whatever you like. And not sure about rosary beads. Could you ask someone In the family? Rosary beads does sound like a nice idea. Maybe even rosary beads and a children's bible. Good luck

I actually asked my sister in law- the mother of the child to be baptized, and she has no idea either. Lol

Re: Godparent gifts
Is the god mom buying her gown? If not I would buy that for her and a pretty adult cross necklace. I would go with 14k white. Never heard of giving rosary beads for a christening.

Re: Godparent gifts
I don't know what the godmother is buying. I know that my sister in law was buying the dress herself because she had a gift card to Macys.

I would buy an adult cross but on the smaller side. I would definitely buy it in white gold. Silver just never looks good over extended wear IMO.
Between my DH & I we have 4 goddaughters and we have bought them all white gold diamond crosses. You can find them for under $300.

Re: Godparent gifts
Do white gold. Traditionally the godfather buys a cross, but when DH has been the godfather to nieces I have asked their mother if she would prefer a cross or diamond stud earrings. I guess I find the earrings more practical for a little girl, although a cross is nice as well but won't be worn really for many years and by that time she might have her own style and taste. The earrings can be worn as soon as she has her ears pierced and into adulthood.
