S/O to C-Section Post
I am 31, will be 32 the day DS turns 1, and it took about a year to conceive him. I am BF-ing, so no BC other than condoms, and plan on continuing until he's 12 months minimum. I have already gotten my 1st period PP anyway (switching from BFing to Pumping during the day brought it on). My doc said to wait 1 full year before TTC again, but that long of a wait makes me cringe. My question is, if you had a c-section, how long did you wait to have DC#2 (or 3...)?

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
I waited until my son was 16 months old to TTC. I got pregnant again when he was 19 months, delivered 2nd child 28 months after the first c section.
My second pregnancy, and c section procedure and recovery, were great. No placenta issues. The doctor told me waiting at least a year after delivery was best, allowing for full healing both internally and externally.
I was 35 when I had my first son, and 37 when I had my second. I didn't let my age scare me into trying sooner, I wanted to make sure my body was healed.

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
My OB/GYN strongly recommends waiting a full year to conceive after having a C-section so that everything can heal properly.
ETA - I had my DD at 33, got pregnant with my DS at 37.

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
My midwife told me 2 years between births - but I really wanted to VBAC. DD2 was due on DD1's second birthday but arrived 11 days early

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
After my first section I got pregnant 7 months later- so my first two were 16 months apart- no problems at all.
Then we waited about 2 years or so try for our third so a little over 3 years between my 2nd section and my 3rd.

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
I had DD2 18 months after DD1. Both were C-sections.
I actually asked my doctor right after my second C-section if there was a lot of scar tissue and/or thinning, and she told me everything looked really good and having a third should not be an issue. My recovery for my 2nd C-section was so much better than my first. I was up and walking around that very night.
That's not to say its necessarily a 'good' thing to have sections that close but I know of a lot of people that have, including myself, without any complications.

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
We didn't wait long to try again, even though we have been unsuccessful. That said, I was told that if I wanted a VBAC, which I do/did, we should wait at least a year to ensure adequate healing.

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
I had a c-section and my OB said to wait a minimum of 12 months before getting pg again. We weren't ready sooner than that anyway. I got pg when DS was almost 18 months.

S/O to C-Section Post
It kind of drives me a little bonkers, because I always wanted my kids very close in age, I was hoping to try again very soon after giving birth, not expecting a c-section. We would be ready to start trying again if we didn't have to wait it out for the c-section reasons. I know it is so stupid, but I'm honestly very upset about having to wait 1 year.

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
My sister got pregnant when my niece was 5 months old... and then again when my other niece was 5 months old as well. She had c-sections for each of her 3 kids and they all have 14 months in between them.

My friend had two c-sections 15 months apart with no issues. Her second and third c-sections were 25 months apart.

Re: S/O to C-Section Post
My doctor didn't say anything the first time although I had no intention of having kids close together. I think my doctor may have mentioned 1 year after my second c-section, but again I wasn't planning on TTC for a long time.

I was told to wait a year also but I'm in no hurry.
If you really want to do it sooner I would just talk to your OB and discuss the risks. Ultimately it's your decision. I was told conceiving often doesn't take as long after your first which was true for me as it took half as long.

My doc recommended waiting a year, I found I was pregnant with my 2nd child a few days before my DD first bday. Had no issues

My dr never gave me a time period after my c/s. I got pregnant with my DD when my DS was 9 months old.

My dr said you need to wait a minimum of 1 year between surgeries so not to try right away.
For us, DD will be 27 months old when I have the second c-sect
