Daycare weather closures?
Just curious what other daycares do in the event of weather related closures. What is the procedure for closing early? How much notice do they give you before you need to pick up your child if they close early? Do they ever have delayed openings?

The one my girls are going to in the fall follows school openings and delays. But they post on fb that they didn't delay the last time the schools did bc they know parents need to get to work. I would think that each follow a different protocol but that they cant just leave the school and leave kids there is their parents cant get there.

Mine does not close for weather. The other day we got 14 inches and they were still open.

My daycare RARELY closes but when they do they will post it on their website and also send an email to all parents by 5 am (They open at 630 am). They also list it on News 12 website under school closings.
Same for delayed openings.
I don't think I recall any time they have closed early. The other day when it was icing they sent an email saying it's getting bad out, please use caution driving and leave early as you will need to go slow. But they did not close early even that day.
It has to be REALLY bad out for them to close- like a blizzard.

Daycare weather closures?
my daycare uses the Tadpole app for most things along with text messages.
For Example....Mon we had a delayed opening. Center normally opens at 630 and they opened at 830. Then because the weather stayed bad they sent a message at about 2ish that they were closing at 5pm.
Then on Mon night we got another message that Tues would again be a 2 hr delay. They rarely close....def not as much as say a district school. They understand we are working parents and they do their best to stay open but want everyone safe.

these are all great ideas. I may bring this up to my daycare. My daycare doesn't have a set policy about closing procedures- like something written out on paper. I like the e-mail idea. I mean who doesn't use e-mail now? If they call to say they are closing early, they basically expect you to drop everything and pick up your child immediately. I got such guilt when I picked up my son on Monday later than my usual time due to the weather. They were still open, though. Just say 'drive home safe, and we'll see you tomorrow.' Don't give me the guilt. They made a big deal about having back-up. I agree. But, 1) that's why I use daycare, I don't have family local or anyone else really who can just drop everything and 2) you need to give parents some time to get there. My husband has a flexible job and can just drop everything but he works in the city needs sometime to get there.
Sorry - vent over. It's always interesting to hear how other places work.

My day care also follows the school district's closures; however, they did not have delayed openings this past week, even though the school district did. The closed early on the ice storm day. They called me at 130 to say they were closing at 4. They are not on facebook.

this is what my daycare does... and when they close early they either inform first thing when you drop off your child, OR, they post on facebook, email, post on their website and call.

Pretty much this. They follow the school districts (even though it's in-home, which im not sure I agree 100% with but it is what it is). They did not have delayed openings though. On Monday, they supposedly sent out a group text saying they were closing early (again, not sure I 100% agree with this since they're at home and don't have to go anywhere) however neither DH nor I got the text. Luckily, DH was already going to pick her up before the early closing anyway. For the blizzard, we got about 3-4 hours notice that they were closing early.

our closes for big storms, closes early when needed and has delayed openings but that is rare.
They do not follow the Bethpage district. if they can get in there, they will open.
