exchanging a present... opinions needed
honest opinions welcome...
my sister bought my dd an American girl baby... I did not open it yet because its expensive and my dd has shown zero interest in baby dolls. My mom bought her one as well but a cheaper one that's actually a lil bit cuter...
I want to exchange the American girl baby for an American girl doll because I feel if or when my dd does show interest in dolls theres a lot more to do with the doll. it may capture her interest for longer as well.
Do I tell my sister (whose sensitive and crazy and over reactive) that I want to exchange it (in case she ever asks about it because she will)??
Do I just exchange it without telling her? and what do I do if she asks about it?

did she give a gift recipet? can you exchange without one if she didn't? also how old is your DD? my DD wasn't very interested in baby dolls but recently she has shown much more interest to the point I bought her a new one for her bday. does she play with it all the time no but she doest that with everything she is into one thing for a little bit move to something new and/or goes back to playing with something she is not into. I would probably keep it cause I am sure she will like dolls soon and DD loves having more than one.
ETA: I would tell you sister either way. either before doing it or when she asks I wouldn't lie to her. the question is when do you want to hear her complian about the fact that you exchanged it though I cant see her getting too upset if you exchanged it for the older version.

Re: exchanging a present... opinions needed
I can't speak for all kids but I can tell you that as a little girl I LOVED baby dolls, but only ones that actually looked like babies. I don't "get" the original American Girl big girl dolls and would have had zero interest in them as a child.
My DD (she's almost 4) has both the big girl doll and the Bitty Baby. She totes the Bitty Baby around everywhere, sleeps with her, takes care of her, plays with her, etc but barely touches the big girl doll. I don't know if she might have more interest as she gets older but I doubt it if she's like me. The books sound cool but I just can't see playing with a doll like that. Might just be me though. I don't know why she would need two Bitty Babies, although they do sell twins so who knows.
Whatever you decide to do, I'd probably tell your sister if you plan to exchange the doll because it's not like she's someone who won't be around to notice that the doll isn't there. Especially if she's the sensitive type, you're better off to tell her before you do anything. Just explain the situation.

My DD is 5 and has had the Bitty Baby for several years. She definitely grew into it and loves it. I wanted to buy her one of the other AG dolls for her birthday, but she told me she wouldn't play with it.

My DD is 5. She got Bitty Baby awhile ago and an American Girl doll last year. She showed zero interest in both..I didn't want to return since they were from MIL. The last few months she is very much into playing with her baby dolls. Still no interest in the American Girl doll. I would keep it.

As a little girl I loved dolls but only the dolls that looked like babies. My dd is 4 now and she got the bitty baby when she was 2 and really never played with it now she loves it. I would hold onto it.

My dd is only 2.5 and shows zero interest in dolls. Shes into cars and trains, coloring and stickers...
Well hearing how some of your dd got into it as they got older ill hold onto it... and wait till she shows interest... i dont know why i just thought maybe the older ones had more to do... i domt even know enough about them to be honest lol
plus it saves me from an argument or hurt feelings with my sis...
Thanks a lot!

I agree to keep it. Baby doll stage is an older one 3-5 (or even older).

Keep it - Your sister wanted to buy it for her, SHE spent the small forutne.
Especially b/c she's hypersensitive, youi know it won't go over well if you exchange it.

I wouldn't return it...especially since it was from your sister. I'm sure eventually the daughter will be into it.
