Starter sippy cups
Does any1 have a sippy cup they would recommend? My DD is 8 months and I think we need to start introducing the concept and I have 2 and hate them!

After an exhaustive search and buying over 12 different kinds of cups - this particular one is the only one that DS took to AND it didn't make me crazy with parts and leaks.
It is pretty much leak-proof and snaps together pretty easily. There's a little "lock" picture on it and it makes a CLICK noise that's very clear and apparent when it is closed properly. I like that :)

Awesome. At what age did your son understand how to use the sippy cup? I try to show my DD but she doesn't seem to "get it" LOL

i only use/used straw cups with my DC.
for both of them I started water in the Playtex lil griper straw cups and milk both started with munchkin straw cups and then I eventually moved DD to tommee tippe straw cups I will do the same for DS

We didn't try it until he was done with formula and the bottle at 12 months. Once the ped said, he's a year - you can give up the formula, I went out and bought a bunch of sippy cups. I tried the ones with the straw and he was having no part of that. So, I did the one I recommended above to start. I figure he can graduate to the straw when he's a little older.
It took him a good month or two to really get it - and we had to work with him. He wanted us to hold the bottle for him! Like King Tut!!  I was like nooooo you hold it yourself! He looked at me like, but I prefer to be served! He thinks who the helll he is
So, it did take a bit. Keep trying and hopefully she'll get it. I just kept putting it up to his mouth and helping him hold the handles.

i went right to straw cups. the nuby is my favorite. i started by giving her water in it with dinner. just keep giving it to her. she will figure it out

I started using straw cups with DS at 9 months. It took him about a month or so to get used to it. First I tried the playtex little grippers but found they leaked a lot so then I tried the munchkin flip top ones which I liked a lot better.

This pretty much. We started early too, at six months. We also use Nuby and there are ones for 6 mos, 12+ mos, etc. I only ever gave her straw sippys because I wanted her to learn. Btw, the straws often need to be broken in because it's not easy to suck and get the liquid out initially. I saw DD having a hard time with a new one and I took it from her and sucked and I had to strain to get the water out, can't imagine how hard it was for her. Once I realized that, I actually manipulated the straw a bit with my hands to make it easier for the liquid to come out.

I was told to only use a straw cup. We use nuby. I love them bc they don't leak.

We hated this one... well I guess DD did b/c she refused to drink out of it.
DD got the hang of this one pretty quickly.

I use a straw sippy cup. "Zoli" is the brand. I got it on amazon. It only has two parts and has never leaked on me. The straw is flexible and has a stainless steel weight at the bottom that enables your baby to get all of the liquid out no matter which way they tilt the cup. My 7 month old has been using it for a month. After trying several different cups, it is definitely my favorite.

Good point about the straws! I'll have to try that later.

My PED recommended the Playtex Little Grippers straw cup starting at 6 months (I bought the small ones....then they have larger one that he moved onto)

LOL I agree! I would love to give my DD a survey.. Do you prefer this or that.. LOL
Just wait until I have more children because I bet you each one will differ SO much from their sibling!

DS is 9 months and I recently introduced a sippy cup. Right now it seems all he does is chew on it, but he does get some water out of it. And most importantly is does not spill/leak!

Starter sippy cups
I started/continue to use straw cups, playtex lil grippers. Put water in it everyday and gave it at every meal until she got it. It took her like a month to get that you can sip from straw and water comes out. Once she got that she would spit it out all over herself, that lasted for another month and was SOOO annoying LOL and then she just got it and we have never looked back.
I did the straw cups because I heard sippy cups can intefere with speech and cause issues. And because I would have to teach her to drink with a straw regardless so I figured why transition twice in a short time when I can just do it once without an issue. Even if it took her a little longer.
I started around 9 months and by 12 months she was a pro LOL

We skipped over sippy cups altogether - the speech therapist where I work said they are not good for palate development. We went right to the playtex lil trainer straw cups. We started around 7 mos, and she got the hang of it around 9 mos.
