Whn you travel with DH & 2 young kids, how many suitcases do you bring for a week trip?

We are going to disney so I have to pack both warm & cool clothing for the kids. I thought I could pack all 4 of us into a large suitcase & check that bag & also have a medium sized duffel bag & book bag to carry on the plane but I think it may be tight.

I only have 1 child, but we each have one suitcase (so 3 suitcases total) and then my carry on.

We are light packers. We usually take 2 suitcases, 1 backpack and a carry on.

We do a lot of long weekends (3-4 nights) and I try to do 2 carry on suitcases and don't check in bags.

I pack the whole house. At least 3 suitcases for four people depending on where we are going. Warm places require less room. The bigger the kids, the more room their clothes take.

I used to pack the kids with me and DH has his own suitcase. But now that the kids are getting older and their stuff takes up more room, we use 3 suitcases. I pack the kids together and DH and I each have our own.

Only 2 for 3 people, but my DD is 3 so her stuff easily fits in one of ours

We bring one each, then sometime one smaller duffle type bag with the things that might leak and stuff (think shampoo, sunscreen, deodorant, band aids, etc). I never fill the bags completely to give room to bring anything we buy home.

The only negative to packing everyone in one or two bags is that if they lose your bag, no one will have clothes. We cross pack (put a few things into everyone's). This way if one is lost one person loses most of their stuff but has a few items they packed into the other bags.

I usually don't pay for luggage so that is not a consideration. But I factor it into my costs depending on the airline before I book.

The weight restrictions at the airport make it impossible to pack a whole family in one suitcase. We just went to Disney in October (family of 4) and DH and I had one suitcase, the kids shared 1 suitcase and then we ended up having to check a duffle bag we bought at the gate because even though we had PLENTY of room in the suitcases they exceeded the stupid weight limits for the airline. Such a headache!!!

ETA - Our kids are almost 2 and 6 yrs old and we spent 10 days in Disney.

For Disney, a lot! A suitcase for each usually. But that's because I pack 2 outfits a day since who wants to put your sweaty clothes on after taking a pool break, etc. If you are going soon, you likely won't have that issue. Although, last Winter Break it was 90 there when we went.

Thanks! Yeah, looks like I will need to pack DH & myself in a larger suitcase & the kids in a smaller suitcase PLUS a duffle bag & my large crossbody. I'm already exhausted!

Myself and DH each have a carry on size suitcase - and I combine the boys into another carry on size. - So, 3.

I also pack a large tote carry on w/ bathing suits/changes of clothes

I'm not lugging that GINORMOUS suitcase - DH and I used it for our 2 week honeymoon and never ever again.

I am a notorious over-packer. So DH and I always had our own suitcase and now DD has her own too. My shoes alone could have their own bag!

We got rid of our large suitcases bc the weight requirements were such a PITA at the airport. I bought everyone their own rolling carryon. My 3 kids (6,8 and 9) wheel their own bags onto the plane and DH and I have our own. So much easier. No waiting for luggage and we can be on our way. We have been doing this for a few years.

Before DS#2, I packed mine and DS clothes in 1 bag, DH usually had his own (I would put any extras in there ). No carry on since we usually have enough to drag through the airport between car seats and strollers. With 2 kids now I would have the 2 share a bag. Again everything checked except car seats and strollers

I only have one child so we have 2 suitcases. We don't need that much and we usually have W/D in any place we stay. If I had 2 kids then it would still be 2 suitcases maybe just one would be bigger.
