Disney Vacation Club at Polynesian
A friend of DH's has a lot of points that he has mentioned he would rent to us if we were interested. I don't know where he typically stays. Once DVC opens at the Polynesian would we be able to rent his points to use there? Does anyone have more info about the Polynesian updates etc? I'm not at all familiar with the policies, process, etc. Ideally I would like to go in September with DH and our daughters who will be 1.5yo and 3.5yo by then. TIA!

I don't think you would get a reservation for a long time. It will likely fill up fast from those who are buying the Poly as their home resort.
Here is the point chart for that resort. The studios are reasonable, the bungalows are $$$$. Most points rent for $13 a point, not sure what your friend would charge.

Re: Disney Vacation Club at Polynesian
Dvc points can be used at any dvc resort. However, unless your friend buys into the poly, he will not have the home resort advantage (the ability to book 11 months out v. 7 months). It may be a while before you can get into the poly. A lot will also depend on what size room you want.
So technically the answer is yes. You can rent his points to stay at the poly. Whether or not you will be to get a reservation is another story.

Thanks so much for your replies. I haven't been to Disney since I was six so I'm trying to research as much as possible before we actually plan everything. The Polynesian would be IDEAL while the kids are so young but good heavens is it expensive!

If you want easy access to MK while the kids are young, rent your friend's points for DVC at Wilderness Lodge (easy boat ride to MK) or Bay Lake Tower (quick 5 minute walk to MK) plus monorail access.
I've never had an issue getting a room at less than 7 months out at either resort.

I agree with the Wilderness Lodge. The resort is beautiful! and the location can't be beat for being off the monorail. You can watch the fireworks from the beach. It's one of my fav resorts at Disney!
