Traveling and Car Seats
We are planning a trip to Dominican Republic in March and this will be our first time flying with DS. He is 2 years old and I was wondering if you can request a car seat at the airport or if you bring your own. I am thinking i probably have to bring my own. Also if you traveled to an All Inclusive Resort did you have to pay for a small child or only for airfare. TIA

Are you talking about a car seat for the airplane? If so airlines do not provide car seats. And if you want yours on the plane make sure it is FAA compliant as not all will fit in the seats. I have flown with my DS quite a bit and always just buckle him in the seat. Once we take off he is in my lap as he doesn't want to stay put.
As for a car...I have rented from a car company and also brought my own. Its cheaper to take your own. The one I rented was perfectly clean and looked new but it cost me almost as much as the car.
Each resort handles pricing differently so I'd check with them.

I meant getting a car seat once we arrive in Dominica Republic. I plan to have him sit in the seat but was worried about transporting him to and from hotel. I guess I will just bring my own and check it. Thanks everyone.

How do you check if the car seat is FAA compliant?

It's not recommended or safe to neither check or gate check your car seat nor is it recommended to rent a car seat. Car seats are tossed around when checked on planes. As for renting, you don't know the history of it.
I would bring your own and use it on the plane - just make sure it's FAA compliant.

I'm traveling with my DD 23 months and DS 5 months. My DD has a seat on the plane so we'll bring her carseat on the plane, but what about my son. he's going to sit on our lap but we'll need a carseat when we get there so I was going to check it. is there any other option?

I know the experts say don't check anything but its not reality. I have checked my seats and it comes back it the exact same shape as before. No new scrapes or anything. Just get a bag for it.
And for liability reasons if a car seat is in an accident the rental car must replace them.
Also you should contact the transfer company that is taking you from the airport to the hotel and back to make sure a car seat can be installed.

I personally wouldn't after watching not only videos of baggage handlers tossing them around like they're nothing but also seeing it from my airplane window. Can you buy your son a seat?
When we traveled with DD, she was 5.5 months old. She sat in our laps but we had arrangements with family at our destination to have a car seat there for us -- it was DH's cousin's son who had outgrown it.
