Anything to prevent ds from ripping me to shreds?

When DS gets tired and I am calming him down to put him down, he starts clawing at my chest and my face and pulling my hair. I keep saying no and nice to mommy but it doesn't work. I have also tried to give him a blanket or a lovey kinda thing but he just throws it to the ground. Any other suggestions? TIA!

When you find out let me know!! Mines a terror when he's overtired .. I just try to get him to sleep right before that point ... It only works 50% of the time but hey better then looking like I walked through a rose bush!

I'm not sure how old your ds is, but when my dd gets like that when she is overtired, I just put her down in her crib and she goes right to sleep. I think she is trying to give me the message that she is done and wants to be left alone. Not sure if that is the case for you...

How old? My one dd does this because she thinks she is funny. I just shove her off me and tell her to stop and ignore her.

How old? If your DC is over a year old, then I would put them down and say not nice and we don't do that. If younger it is a lot harder.

He will be 8 months next week. I give him 2 chances then I do put him down in his crib. I don't think it is an overtired thing thoufh

My daughter is 7 months and when she does this I try to give her a cloth to hold and I gently hold her hands while patting her butt and shushing. If she trys to grab my face i pretend im eating her hands etc til she calms down. It is usually when she is over tired.

Totally normal at this age. My son is 18 months and is finally understanding not to hit/grab me. Prior, i did all the things that the blogs said to do but i don't think he had the ability to understand the word 'no'. Give it some time :)

Re: Anything to prevent ds from ripping me to shreds?

At 7 to 8 moths they are just really discovering the world around them. It is normal for that age. They are realizing they can do things with their hands and have a reaction from you. I would be firm, no laughing, no anger. Just put your DC down and say no, not nice. They might not even understand what no means yet. Your physical reaction is almost more important for them to gauge what is going on as much as the words said. If you don't give a reaction then the child will hopefully move to a new thing quickly. I would redirect them to something else. I would not punish a baby as they really don't understand the consequences of grabbing or that they are hurting you yet.

My DS just turned 8 months and would constantly put his hands in my mouth and nose while nursing and would sometimes grab my hair or scratch me. I tried to give him a lovey to no avail. I then started letting him grasp/hold my finger and he seems to like that.

Re: Anything to prevent ds from ripping me to shreds?

Thanks all- I know it will pass. I was more asking if anyone had any replacement items that they have found worked. This is why a lot of people introduce loveys at this age but he just throws it down lol

Unfortunately my dd just had to outgrow it. She was the same way and there was no replacement for her

My dd is 9 months and she stopped for a bit and just started again. I take her hand and tell her to 'do nice' as I rub my cheek with her hand.
