Seriously.. don't you love that gasp of excitement and thrill when they open a present?

Went to my cousins' house tonight (xmas eve) to open family gifts. I was asked what she wanted and it was only 3 things. A pillow, a blanket and jammies of TMNT.

My aunt got her jammies and gave them to her early. Grrr but tonight she gave her books and matching game which AJ smiled politely and thanked her for and a few neat ornaments that I think my aunt doesn't realize how much AJ did actually like them.

But the winning gasp?

That was from my cousin who got her all three. The pillow and blanket (nap set - which accidentally I have the EXACT same one under the tree right now) and some different jammies. But she opened that box and couldn't control herself. That gasp, that smile, the pride that she held up with that tiny pillow! LOL the whole room laughed. Not an ipad, not a new game, not money or a gift card.. but a $20 nap set and $10 jammies had my kid RUSHING to change into them and giggle in glee as she snuggled with the blanket and pillow

Makes the whole night worth while (45min drive in the dark back roads to a small outskirt town and the rush home before midnight hoping to avoid drunk drivers).

And yes, I'm going to let her have the second set. one for our house and one for auntie's. For $20, who cares she has two? After all, we said that one was from Santa so he didn't know what my cousin got her, right? LOL the only NON stocking gift from santa, but its still the only unwrapped gift under the tree.

Don't think anything we got her is going to get that gasp tomorrow. LOL but I'm so very glad she was so grateful, polite and generally thrilled. Everyone says I'm lucky she's not asking for expensive toys. I figure its not luck, she's just a happy kid and when you're happy in life it takes so very little to make a bright day even brighter, right?

It's been a tight year. Didn't spend much on her and our usual two checks we get from his mom and his uncle didn't come this year so it was slim but I think we did good. :D

So what was your GASP gift?

that's awesome!

DS does not gasp. he rolls his eyes, facepalms, and pretends to fall over from the joy. lol

his GASP gift was excatly what he wanted- his HESS truck. He had to wait all day for his godfather to show up with it (he started giving them to him each year as a tradition, like his family STILL does for him) and the second he came in, he asked for his hess truck. He was soo excited when he got it, he started jumping up and down and doing a victory dance.

all those gifts under the tree and the one he was excited for wasn't even from us! lol

Her first gasp was when she opened her Rapunzel Play Doh toy. She's got a serious obsession with Play Doh. Her second and best gasp was when we went back up to her room and she saw her slide waiting for her. She was thrilled. It was awesome.
