by to much carrying. my parents think i will spoil my lil girl if i carry her so much, she is only 2 wks old

Go with your instinct. From everything I hear and what I think, not possible to spoil a 2 week old. They thrive on being held and cuddled at this age.

Newborns cannot be spoiled. They need the love and nuturing! Every time you hold, touch and interact with your baby their brain grows! That is what I learned in nursing school!

Exactly....how can you spoil someone with love and attention? Our parents said the same thing...Oh she will never be able to be put down...blah blah
4 months later she happily plays in her swing, bouncy chair, on the floor with toys
Makes me think what did all our parents do? Never pick us up and let us scream our head off

At that age I don't believe they can be spoiled, but I do think constant carrying can become a habit as they get older- or atleast that's what my friend has warned me about. She said that her son would only sleep if he was being held, so she had a very hard time getting him to sleep on his own. She warns me all the time not to follow in her footsteps.

I don't think there is any such thing as holding a baby too much. If it becomes habit just make sure and try a sling or baby bjorn so you can get stuff done at the same time.

the doctors told me there was no way you can spoil a newborn! i held my DS for hours during the day and let him sleep in bed w/ us ... my DH would 'warn' me i was spoiling him but i still did it. DS is now 3 months (next week) and is fine, i can leave him sit for hours or i can still hld him for hours and he is fine w/ both ways

I am so glad you post this question.
My Dh says our 1 month old is spoiled b.c I hold her all the time, and when we put her down she cries, I knew it wasnt b.c she was spoiled
Now that this is a fact I am going to carry away !!!!!!!

Pay no mind to them!!! You go ahead and hold her, love her, nurture her  I'll be holding my daughter for as long as my arms and back can take the weight 
P.S. If you don't already have, a sling is great thing to have. DD loves it!

I have said this before and got yelled at, but I think newborns CAN be spoiled. Not at 2 weeks, but 2 weeks quickly become 2 months and then it is too late, they are spoiled.
That being said, I held dd every minute for 4 months and wouldn't have changed a second of it. I love my spoiled little girl.

I'm sorry, but how can you spoil a baby that cannot help itself? A baby can not move itself, cannot feed itself, change itself. So, I'm not sure how providing what a baby needs is considered spoiling them. As far as I'm concerned, if a baby needs to be held all the time, it's for a reason. You holding that baby is meeting a need they have. I held Ava morning, noon and night the first 2.5 months of her life because she needed it. And now, she happily entertains herself in her bouncy seat or swing. It's your job as a mother to meet the needs of your baby. Anything short of that is neglect.

UGH! I hated when people said that to me.. there is NO WAY to spoil a baby... if they feel comforted when their Mom is holding them then of course you should be holding them..... they were warm and comfy inside you for 9 months of course they need to be close!
