I love my aunt.. but..
Bless her heart! Seriously not mad at her. I left AJ with her today because both of us had to work. This is the first time we've left her alone on a sick day.
I sat down last night and gave CLEAR and specific instructions on both the antibiotic and the motrin.
Dosage for the antibiotic - 1tsp with food (twice a day) Dosage for Motrin - 1 & 3/4
So today at 4pm she says "she's eating so I'm going to give her the second dose of Antibiotics" which is fine with me.
Well when I picked her up she said she got her dose of Motrin.. I'm thinking "wha" so I asked "Motrin??" She said yes yes yes of course. I feel AJ and she's a little warm so really?
"No no, I mean antibiotics! of course" which is what I thought so no biggie. We chit chat, we pack up AJ and I leave with her.
Nearly home I get the call " OMG Veronica!!!" Yeah? "Mija, I'm so nervous right now.. I'm going to cry, I don't know what to do" um.. what's wrong I ask...
"I gave her 1 & 3/4 antibiotic. I wrote it down. I don't know why. I know you made me write down the instructions, the amounts and the details but I just ... Oh Mija! I don't know what I was thinking, but I looked at the Motrin dose and not the other one! She's got too much drugs!"
*sigh*
I think she'll be fine. I have a call into the night pediatrics who gave us the Rx. Poor thing really beat herself up. She kept going on and on and I just said "it will be fine, thanks for telling me. I know you feel badly but just think we won't make this mistake twice right?" (trying to lighten the mood).
Never mind I made a POINT to have her write it down herself, the bottle has the dosage "I never even looked at it!" and I had her say it to me a few times.
It was an honest mistake.
So she had a full dose at 10am and nearly twice the dose at 4pm. I suspect poops and rash. We shall see what the doc says.
Oh auntie! LOL poor thing wants me to call as soon as I wake up to give her a status.
ETA: oh and I gave her a syringe that ONLY goes up to 1tsp and said "are you sure? I mean the syringe won't even hold more than 1tsp" she says.. I know you gave me that and I know you told me why and I know you said it a few times but .. well... I didn't use it. I figured I had a syringe so I used one of mine.
Poor thing just messed up!
Update: In case anyone else ever makes this mistake. Just give them pro-biotics and its fine... worst case scenario is diarrhea and upset stomach. Thankfully a banana kept her tummy in check and other than some toots, she was fine. :)
