Re: oatmeal in bottles??
I remember putting VERY little oatmeal in a bottle. Maybe a half a spoon... It would only thicken the milk slightly (otherwise it would not come out the nipple).

oatmeal in bottles??
how old is he, he cant take it from the spoon? i would call the dr and ask how much. i am personally against doing it but i know people who do. i would make it as thin as possible and probably make the nipple whole bigger.

he can take form spoon normally, but he is rejecting all food - anything fed thru the mouth by spoon he gives me lock jaw

Honestly I would just wait it out. The virus will probably only last a few days. I can't see putting enough in the bottle that it would actually make that much of a difference if he is used to eating solids.

He won't choke, especially if he was eating from a spoon. It only thickens the formula. Try 1-2 teaspoons per ounce and see how he does.

Re: oatmeal in bottles??
Clarify with the doctor but doesn't he mean oatmeal cereal? Just like they have rice cereal, they have oatmeal cereal and the thickness is nowhere near that of regular oatmeal. It's a fine powder.
And yes, you can add a tablespoon or two (follow what it states on the cereal label) to a bottle of formula. Then, you just need to get a thicker liquids nipple for the bottle that you have - they sell them, it has like a slit in it instead of the tiny hole.
Of course, you could probably just take a fork and widen an existing nipple.
We did this with DS when he was an infant.

"Food before 1 is just for fun" is the answer my pediatrician gave me when I asked how much DD should be eating when she was little.
Honestly cereal in a bottle can be a choking hazzard. I would try to up his ounces and see if he drinks more before worrying about the cereal.
If not I'd wait it out. The virus will only last a few days. Hope he feels better soon !!

Re: oatmeal in bottles??
I do oatmeal in the bottle for reflux. I do 2 tablespoons and it does clog the nipple, but if you shake shake shake it usually is fine. I do a tablespoon per 2 oz.

yup. theres no reason to push solids. they get everything they need from formula.
