Toddler Sleep Help
DH made the mistake of laying down next to DDs crib one night while she fell asleep. Seemed like a good idea at the time to help her settle down, but now its turned into an every night occurrence. Usually he'll sneak out of her room after she has fallen asleep, but sometimes if she wakes up during the night she'll start screaming for him and he'll go back in and lay next to her. Sometimes like last night, he falls asleep as well and ends up sleeping on the floor all night! Any tips for how to stop this habit? She has recently starting climbing out of her crib also, so cry it out isn't really an option. We are going to buy her a new bed soon, so I'm hoping I can do the big girl bed/learning to sleep by herself transition all at once. Any tips/BTDT advice is welcome! TIA!
ETA She is 2 1/2 and has been a good sleeper until recently.

Toddler Sleep Help
Talk to her and see if there is something that is specifically scaring her. My DS hated the dark so we used to let him sleep with the light on. It ended up staying on all night but hey it he could sleep then I didn't care.
We also let DS cry for a bit before running in unless we know he is sick etc.

Toddler Sleep Help
Thanks, Is your DS in a crib? Since she can hop out crying it out doesn't work so well. The problem initially stemmed from being away for Thanksgiving and sleeping in the same room at my in laws house. When we got back, she wanted us all to sleep in the same room still.

Re: Toddler Sleep Help
not sure if this would work - but maybe have DH give her a new stuffed animal and tell her that daddy needs to go to sleep in his own bed but the stuffed animal will stay with her at night?
my dd is almost 2 and she has "doggie" that she must sleep with every night. we originally started out with about 5 animals for her (hoping she wouldnt get attached to just one), but shes down to just wanting doggie in the crib.

Thanks, that is a good idea! She doesnt sleep with any animals right now so we will definitely try that!
