I'm having Twins

We just found out that we are pregnant with twins from our first successful IVF. I'm still in shock and scared s**t. Panic has set in and I'm just praying for a smooth, healthy, and close to full term pregnancy. Any advice would be helpful. I'm hoping for some words of encouragement on here to feel more at ease since obviously DH and I are the only ones who know. Would love to hear some birth stories on how long you kept your babies in before delivery. Thanks mommas Chat Icon

I'm having Twins

Congratulations!! After trying so hard to get pregnant DH and I cried (not tears of joy) after finding out it was twins. It's completely natural to be scared. Our twins are 3 months now and they're honestly easier than my colicky first born. I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months!

Re: I'm having Twins

Congratulations! We have 2.5 year old twins (also resulting from our first round of IVF) and it was and still is a shock, but it really is amazing. I had wanted a vaginal delivery but both babies were breech despite trying every old wives tale out there and seeing a chiropractor etc. The hospital was supposed to call me to schedule my c-section when lo and behold I went into labor at 36 weeks on the nose. For the entire pregnancy people kept tossing around things like bed rest, or nicu, pre-term labor etc. so I was really focused on just being as relaxed as possible and keeping dem babies inside as long as possible.

Try and find twin-specific resources to help ease your mind and give you a head start on ideas as a lot of advice/books/lists for singletons don't always ring as true when you have twins (or more!).

Re: I'm having Twins

Congrats! Twins are so much fun.... and a lot of work, too but it's great!

i conceived the twins without any interventions, and no twins anywhere in the family, AND after two singleton pregnancies: so basically a complete shocker. :)

i had no issues at all. i went to 37 weeks and 3 days; a c-section was scheduled because the day before i was that the OB and I was already 4 cm and he felt a foot! (Both babies were breech).

GOOD LUCK!

Congrats. I am on the other end of the twin pregnancy. I will be 37 weeks on Sunday and the babies don't look like they want out yet. As of now the are both over 6lbs and I am scheduled to go in on Dec 22nd. Both babies are head down but I don't want to be induced. If they come on their own I will try a vaginal delivery. Best advice I can give you is not to push yourself. I stopped working at 26 weeks and really just took it easy after that. I believe this has helped me have a pretty unevenful pregnancy. Drink lots of water!!!!!

Re: I'm having Twins

I have 3 yr old twin girls (clomid/iui) and am 32 weeks with my second set (first round ivf). My first set were born at 35 weeks 4 days and spent 6 days in NICU at Stony Brook. They were 5lb9oz and 5lb13oz at birth. It is overwhelming at first, but best advice is stick to a strict eating/sleeping schedule. If you always wanted more than one child, to me this is the best and most fun way to do it! Chat Icon

Best of luck to you!

I have my Chat Icon Chat Icon from my first successful IVF. They are 3 now! I just followed my doctor's advice. He took me out of work at 24 weeks. Totally precautionary. I had an uneventful pregnancy. I delivered at 37w3d. I had a c-section because one twin was transverse and he would only let me try vaginal delivery if they were both head down. No nicu time. Home in 3 days. Born at 7lb 1oz and 4lbs 15oz (the little guy is now the bigger twinChat Icon).

Congrats!!! Twins are a lot of work but a lot of fun too!!

I got to 37 weeks 3 days. Baby A was 6-10 and Baby B was 5 -15. They were good size for twins bit my two singletons were both 9 pounder, so they seemed small to me! Chat Icon they did not need the NICU (where I delivered doesn't have a NICU) but they both were in the special care nursery for the entire stay. Baby A had blood sugar issues and Baby B needed some support with breathing. They came home with me on a Saturday, born on a Monday (I had a section).
