Opinions on handing down Christening gown?

I thought it would be nice to have DD2 wear DD1's Christening gown, but it's going to be big on her. It's supposed to be long, but the chest will be baggy.
I don't want to have it altered and I don't want to have the Christening later.
Would you still put DD2 in DD1's gown or buy her a new one? The cost isn't an issue, I just think it would be nice to have a family gown.

I would have her wear it...and have their names and Christening dates sew into the under skirt.

I love the idea of sharing Christening gowns. I have offered my twins dresses to everyone having a baby lately (nieces, close friends, etc) and will be reusing one for my newest DD when she arrives. They wear it for such a short time, but I feel like it is more meaningful to share.

DD wore my christening gown, so I definitely love the idea of passing them down. What about tying a satin ribbon around DD's waist, sort of like a belt, so it won't be so baggy?

All 4 of my boys wore the same gown. I didn't have one to use so I bought new, but I would love it if they used it for their kids someday.

DD wore my christening gown and I had out names and baptism dates embroidered on the slip. I hope that one day she can have her DD wear it as well.

I'm all about tradition, so I'd have her wear it anyway. I like the ribbon idea.

Opinions on handing down Christening gown?

I was the first born grandchild on my mother's side and my grandmother bought me my christening gown. There were 6 more grandchildren after me and we all wore that gown- even the 3 boys. After each christening, my grandmother would sew our names and the baptism date on the inside. It is an awesome family keepsake, I think my aunt, who had the youngest grandchild, is the one that still has it. I love things like that!

I would have her wear it.

I baptized DD in the same gown both my sister and I wore 35+ years ago.

I hope DD can make use of it with her children some day.

I'm a sucker for "hand me downs"...DD is wearing the christening gown I wore, my sister wore, my mom wore and my uncle wore. I'm hoping to keep it preserved so that it can continue to be used for later years.

I like the belt/sash idea! I ordered a gorgeous headband from etsy that would look great as a sash...check there!

Same here. It was a little roomy on my second DS but not noticeably so...

If my 2nd had been a girl, I would've used my DD's gown again. It was beautiful and I loved the idea of both kids wearing the same one, it would've been special. But, I had a boy and he would've looked very silly in something so ornate and girly. Chat Icon

DS was christened in the same gown that DH and his brothers wore. I knew it meant a lot to my MIL. She has embroidered all their names on it.

My DD's wore the same dress. They were christened at the same age. It was a little big on DD2 because DD1 was a bigger baby, but not so big that it looked weird. I loved having them wear the same thing and creating an heirloom. My DH's aunt had their names and christening dates embroidered on the inside lining.

ETA: Is there anything you can do to tighten it temporarily--pin the back without making it look obvious?

Opinions on handing down Christening gown?

I had my wedding gown made into my DD1 christening gown and will def use it again if I am blessed with another girl. I think its sweet to hand it down too so that the sisters can use it to baptize thier children when they get older.

I would still put it on her.

My 3 and my 2 nieces all wore the same gown. They ranged in age from 5-12m when they were christened so it fit them differently.

Does it have a sash? Maybe you can add one?
