vacation w my son - flight and cruise UPDATE

So it looks like we are going to be going on a cruise from Ft lauderdale in Feb- we finally decided- my LO will be 10 months at the time

We are going down a day earlier, so i will get diapers, food and wipes in flor (no need to pack them for the flight)
As well, the hotel we staying at has a shuttle so we do not need our car seat

UPDATE:
we booked, going on Royal Carr in Feb 2015
my LO will be 10 months,

tell me about your flight experience, how to feed them, how you carried the formula etc

What toys did you pack to take with you for the cruise? we have a tablet which we will use for him as well

You are going to have a great time.

We didn't bring too much on the cruise at that age to entertain the kid (except favorite food & puffs). We did bring him to shows & crawl him around.

We did get off port stops. We would usually go to a beach (excursions often had age limits) or just walk around (in PR).

We did sit down meals (but DS was used to going to restaurants).

You can always leave & do buffet if things are not going well...

I was on RC Allure of the summer with 2 kids 4 yrs old and 17 months.

We had the ipad and old phone, sippy cups, umbrella stroller ( the rooms are small),

we did buffet and sit down. depending on the evening. We used the in room babysitting so we went out to dinner some nights so those nights we did the buffet for them. we only got off at 1 stop. We didn't have much interest in the bahamas, and the other (can't remember) we knew to get to the main town was a PITA with having to take taxis and stuff. the island we did get off had a water taxi and we hit the beach right off the dock so it was easy. Def research on cruise critic. I wasn't comfortable with no carseats and those taxis and I'm not usually like that lol. But the port days are the best on the ship b/c noone is on it and you can do everything with no lines or wait!

Flying with them when they are little is easy. I took single serve powder packets of formula and then bought a bottle of water on the other side of security. You can bring mixed formula through security but it was just easier to mix after for me. Bring toys on the plane....ones that don't make noise!!! We also always buy a brand new toy and do not give it to my DS until we are on the plane....keeps him busy for awhile.

My DS also sleeps on the plane so I'm lucky.

We did not fly for most of our cruises with the kids (we like to leave NYC in May/June as the weather is great & prices have not skyrocketed yet).

The doors are narrow. I brought my citimini, but it was a squeeze. We did do it, but bring the narrowest stroller you have. You don't need a stroller, but our DS napped in his.

Security on the ship is a piece of cake.

I had a big disagreement with security at the gate at the airport (JFK) while flying with DS. Will not fly American Airlines again.

Of course, you should get the kid a passport now if you don't have one yet.

As for formula, I think I packed a bunch in my luggage & carried on what I needed that day.

For all of you pack bathing suits sunblock, whatever you need for the first day b/c it can take a long time to get bags in your room. Make sure you have plenty of wipes, diapers, change of clothes, formula food. Etc.

I didn't need formula for dd but I would pack the cans in my suitcase for the week. I have the partitioned case for formula but that won't work if you need more than 3 bottles. Those single serve packets may be the best best and eaiser to carry for the first day.

This past cruise we went on we both did tinge all inclusive drink package that included bottles of water. You can also buy a case or 2 before hand to haut have in the room. Fed check out what they have to offer. I think you can only bring a certain amount on with you.

Bring the smallest striker you have.

We just brought both kids birth certificates. I do need to get the passports but I didn't before this trip.

We went to Disney when dd2 was 6 months old and I wore her a lot. That may be a good option for you.

All the eating places her high chairs. Even in the fancy stEakhouse they were able to get us high chairs for an early dinner
