Florida Keys with little kids
Anyone know of a good place to stay? Our kids are 4 and 6.
I am least interested in Key Largo and Key West, as I"ve heard Key Largo is large, busy, etc, and I"ve heard Key West doesn't have the best beaches?
I am looking for a really nice soft sandy beach where the kids can play, build sand castles, etc. I am definitely looking for a kid friendly hotel/resort. But I also want DH and I to be able to relax at a beautiful place!
I have heard Islamorada is a nice place - nice beaches, activities, etc.
Any suggestions? TIA!!!

I would not suggest Key West for what you want.
In general the Keys IMO don't have the best beaches.
I have heard good things about Islamorada but I have never been personally.
Have you thought about the Clearwater/St Pete Beach or Sarasota Bradenton area? I just spent a week on Ana Maria island and the beaches are amazing. My DS is almost 3 and he loved it.

We used to go to Islamorada all the time as kids. MY parents used to rent a house out that was on the water with its own dock...I remember catching lobsters and starfish and then tossing them back!
We were so young the last time we went that I can't remember much except hanging at the house lol.

Marathon area, Sombrero Beach There is also Annie's Beach a little further west toward Key West. Both beautiful, deep water beaches. There is also great fishing in Marathon, like party boats that the kids will enjoy.

We were just in key west over thanksgiving with our 17mo. It was great. We stayed at casa marina. They have two pools, one family and one adults only. They are on a beautiful, calm beach. They have activities for kids. Duval street is cute to walk around during the day,,,,gets crowded and rowdy at night bc there are tons of bars. Mallory square has street performers at sunset that dd really enjoyed watching. They also have a little aquarium. Tons of great restaurants.
If you're considering islamorada look into the cheeca lodge.
