Does my kid sleep too much
So ds is 8 months old. He wakes up around 7am, by 9 he wants to nap. He will sleep for about an hour. He wakes up, eats and plays and by 12pm he is ready to nap again. This nap is anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. He wakes up, eats again and plays and naps again for 1 to 2 hours. Finally he wakes up eats, plays and can last a lil longer but is in bed for the nigjt by 8pm.
So basically he naps for 3-5 hours a day and sleeps 11 hours at night.
I just feel like he can't last long inbetween naps. He eats well, gaining weight, hitting milestones etc. Am I being a worry wort or should I bring it to the drs attention? TIA

Sounds normal. My LO at that age was sleeping 11-12 hours at night and napping 3-5 hours a day, in 3 or 4 naps. And was just starting to sometimes take only 2 naps in a day and stretch awake periods to 3 hours.

Re: Does my kid sleep too much
Aww he's just like Julian.
Daddy did the math and came up with the figure of 68% -- Julian SLEPT 68% of his first year of life away.
It is hysterical. It used to bother me - not so much "is this alright?"... But more, I want to enjoy him more and I want him to stay up and spend more time with us because we love being around him so much. Other mothers wanted to slap me so I stopped saying that. But I still thought it!
And people would say, it'll likely change. I don't know about your child but for mine it INCREASED!! He is now 14 months. He sleeps 2.5-3.5 hours a day, naps, and varies between one, two or three naps totaling that time. He sleeps 12-13 hours a night, like clock-work. He usually does 6:30-6:30 or 7-7 or something in that area. It's CRAZY.
He loves sleeping. He wakes up SO happy. He doesn't get super crabby to go down - he just rubs his eyes. If I really wait and let him hit the wall, he does and he starts to just whine and cry like PLEASE just throw me in the crib. It is his favorite place on earth.
He has been this way since the moment he was born. It's CRAZY.
Maybe it is genetic because both mom and dad RELISH sleep.

Haha very funny and I can surely say mom and dad could sleep all day if we could. It is funny, Everett rubs hus eyes as soon as he gets tired and as soon as we start walking up the stairs to his bedroom he smiles, giggles and kicks in excitement as if to say, "yay she is putting me in my crib".

Re: Does my kid sleep too much
Both my kids at that age (and now except for DD who doesn't nap anymore) slept 12-14 hrs a night AND napped for 3 hrs a day.
They need plenty of rest to grow and as long as they are growing there is nothing to stress about. Every kid has different needs. My kids LOVE their sleep which is fine by me!

Yes I think they are supposed to sleep about 14-16 hours per day at this age and can't stay awake more than a 2 hour clip. (According to my sleep books and my daughter isn't a spectacular sleeper but does a similar pattern with her sleep).

I have a ranch -- if I start walking down the hallway to his bedroom, I get the giggle!! LOL!!! I thought to myself, is it just me or is he realizing she's putting me in there, yippeeee! But it's so funny that your son does it too so yeah, he totally realizes it! Unreal!
