Bret Michaels undergoes kidney surgery, hospitalized 6 times in 2 weeks

Bret Michaels kept performing despite medical issues, and now has been hospitalized six times in two weeks.
Bret Michaels’ health has suffered in recent weeks, leading to numerous hospitalizations for the rock star.

Michaels’ website and Facebook page were updated Monday with news that the former Poison frontman had been hospitalized six times in the past couple of weeks, including for kidney surgery.

“Over the last two weeks, Bret was in and out of 6 hospitals throughout the Midwest,” wrote guitarist Pete Evick. “The staff and doctors were unbelievable and took incredible care of Bret. The fans and venues have been amazing and their support unprecedented.”

Evick posted the message in order to address fans' concerns that the rocker had looked unwell and to explain why he had to reschedule some recent concert dates.

"This past week Bret had to have surgery on his kidneys," his guitarist wrote. “The pain that led to the original surgery was so great that he simply could not perform last Thursday in Champaign."

It's just the latest medical hardship for the former "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant. He's been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and suffered a brain hemorrhage after a stage mishap at the 2010 Tony Awards.

Even in ailing health, Evick noted that Michaels has always been resolute about taking the stage, with his motto being, “I’m gonna go until I can’t go anymore.”

But Michaels was performing against his doctors' advice. Even after he had two stents placed in his body, the star hit the stage in Memphis, causing himself so much harm that Evick wrote, “I can’t explain the amount of blood or where it came from, but it was horrifying on his bus after the show. “

When the rocker was taken to the hospital after the concert, Evick said that “the doctors basically refused to release him.”
“Bret continues to be steadfast in his dedication to bring the music to the people,” he added. “He truly has to be held down to not perform.”

The good news for fans is that Michaels is getting back on the road.

“He’s still not 100 percent, but there are no plans to postpone or reschedule any more shows this year,” Evick wrote, adding that “we will see you guys this weekend in Florida.”



Hope he doesn't push himself too hard. Sounds like he really needs to take it easy.

Clearly he needs to take a break from touring.....and film another Rock of Love! Damn, I miss that show.

Hopefully he takes it easy and gets better. He seems like a nice guy.

He should do Rock of Love to find a live-in nurse to take care of him!

I feel so bad for him, but he really needs to lay low for a few years until he gets better.
