Potty Training Poop Fear

DS is 3 years old. Potty trained in that he will not poop or pee in his big boy underwear. However, he is petrified to poop in the potty which has resulted in him being extremely constipated and miserable. What can I do so that he will go???? All of us are miserable. What do we do???

Sometimes they are scared because it hurts --like if they are constipated or hold it too long. Then it's a cycle. If he is constipated if start with some kind of laxative or stool softener. And maybe find out if he will tell you why he doesn't want to poop. I think it's common though.

a friend of mine dd, pooped in a diaper after pee training for almost a year at 3 yrs old. She came home from school one day and pooped. Just like that. haha She thinks she saw someone poop at school with no problems. Her dr told give her some time it can take a while and he was right.

Do what you feel like you should do!!!!

We had the same problem, my DS was trained with Pee 100% and refused to poop. I got him a Thomas Train he wanted REALLY bad and told him that was his reward once he went. He could care less, to him it still wasnt worth it

It took weeks, but one day I saw the look on his face that he had to go and I just grabbed him and put him on the potty....he was scared but once he did
it his face lite up and he was so happy.

From there on, we went to party city and got a bucket of little candy and every time he went poop he got one, worked like a charm.

Keep at it, don't give up and it will happen.

my nephew did the same. Eventually my sister would let him hang out in his nighttime pull up in the morning until he pooped. Then she started reserving the Ipad only for potty sitting. He'd hang out on the potty doing his games forever and eventually he'd just go.

Took us 3 months of him pooping in underwear.
He eventually went on the big toilet.
After he went once, he went forever.
