pick-up, put-down method...failed.
I tried the Pick-up, Put-down method with my ds who will be 4 months at the end of Oct. He has never been a good nap per maybe 30-40max but he is a great night sleeper. We usually have to hold him and rock him to sleep but he will sleep through the night. As we will put him in daycare soon I wanted to try to get him to put himself to sleep. Friends keep suggesting CIO, I can't do that it's just not in me to let him cry w/out consoling. Well I tried the pickup, put-down method and it didn't work. The 2nd time I was at it for 2hrs and ds would cry hysterically when I would lay him down in the crib I would pick him up and he would calm down until I laid him down again. My back is killing me from the picking up and putting down, little man was punch drunk and mommy exhausted. DH came home and suggested we just keep doing what we are doing and when he is older he will eventually learn how to sleep on his own . I know I don't want to try PU/PD again, it was torture for ds and I. Do you think in time ds will learn to put himself to sleep as he gets older???

Re: pick-up, put-down method...failed.
My baby is 9 months and it's been down e hill since 6 months, some nights I sleep on recliner holding him all night. Dr says to cry it out. If I were you I'd wait one o moret month but then again look were I am!! I'm so exhausted I hate it. We also have the toddler in our bed because they share s room and wake each other up, is nuts. I m really messing up!
Good luck and sorry know help here!

I didn't start anything with DD until 6 months. I just couldn't stand the thought of it. I did not do CIO we used the sleep sense method. I like it! It is working.

IMO it's still early to try any sleep methods. I would wait another month or two.

I did CIO at 4 months and then here and there as needed.
I wouldn't do anything just for daycare. They will work it out and you might be surprised. My ds cried 24/7 til he went to daycare and then all of sudden he was an angel for them. But then again they are professionals and have seen it all.

I'd let daycare handle him sleeping and figure it out. At home I think 4 Months is still really young to expect consistent sleep. I'd try at 6 months to cry it out or do Ferber.

Four months is young for sleep training. I just started doing pick up/ put down with my DD as needed and she is seven months old. On the nights I have used it she usually only needs to be picked up a few times.

I agree with the above posters that your child is still to young. We did the CIO method at 8 months & I had two babies crying. As far as what your doing, I hate to say it but I think you will just train your baby to cry for a few min & then he knows you will come back. When child gets alittle older....just leave him.

Your child may be too young. Also, I will say that I didn't change my routine for daycare. They got him to happily conform to their methods/timing. He still needed me to rock him at night but it was a choice I made and something I needed to do.
Even now, he sleeps great at daycare and fights me a bit at night.

Thanks...he is too young. Others have done it at this age but he's not ready nor am I. I'm hoping on his own he wI'll eventually dose off if not when he is older I will try to do some sort of sleep training. For now I'll stick to the rocking and holding. It took about 45 min and he has woken up 1x but he is sound asleep now :) thanks for all the advice!

I would not worry about daycare. The people who work there are baby whisperers. DS is always able to nap there. We are just now doing CIO. DS is one week shy of 6 months.
