Boston OR Washington for TG
Hi
We are thinking of taking the kids away for TG this year as we have no family obligations - two kids - 8 and 4. We would drive. i have never been to washington so that is a must do for me ASAP but wondering if the kids would be better suited to going there when they are a little older and learning more about the history at school
Any thoughts or if you want to throw any other random places to me I am up for that too..
Thanks

Re: Boston OR Washington for TG
I used to live in Boston and now live in DC. I personally would drive south to DC. Weather is milder. Tons of sightseeing to do down here. My son is 5 and obsessed with presidents. It's fun and educational.
To me, Boston is a college town. I went to college and grad school there. Also met my husband there. We go up there to visit his family but otherwise, Boston would not be my pick to take the kids.

Boston OR Washington for TG
I have done both for Turkey Day at soem point and I have lived in both cities as an adult and Boston also as a kid.
I think for kids Boston can be more fun. Their children's museum is top notch and the science museum is lots of fun. Then there is all the historic stuff too along the freedom trail.

I vote DC Free museums! It will be cold, but you can definitely be outside.
Traffic will be horrendous, so figure that in.

I think both are great choices. One bit of advice - if TG means Thanksgiving - I might try to leave on off days/times. I travelled back and forth from school in New England every year for Thanksgiving and the traffic can be a huge nightmare. We drove back on the Sunday after Thanksgiving one year and it took 8 hours just to get from Long Island through Connecticut.

I have traveled every Thanksgiving from Boston or DC to NYC or vice versa since college. Traffic is truly terrible. We try to drive at night. I am not sure which leg of the trips is worst - LI traffic, 95N or 95S/NJ Tpke or DC/MD traffic. All are terrible.

Boston! You just can't beat New England in the fall. The weather is usually still ok at TG.

If your kids like the natural history museum or air planes, they would probably enjoy the air and space, natural history and american history museum to just name a few. They would also enjoy the zoo. I think DC offers more than Boston, but both are great choices.
