What do you eat in a typical day?
I am trying to gauge what others eat in a typical day and get an idea to curb myself as well as meal ideas. I am not able to exercise due to medical restrictions so diet is all I have to combat weight gain.

What do you eat in a typical day?
A typical day for me
always a banana in am before gym greek yogurt or scrambled eggs after
lunch is usually a big salad with avocado and some veggies with balsamic dressing. Sometimes a tuna fish sandwich with a ton of pickles and juice with a little mayo.
dinner is usually a piece of fish and a sweet potato
For snacks- I usually have at least one of the following: fruit, nuts, hummus, celery and peanut butter, frozen banana with chocolate, chocolate soy milk, a piece of dark chocolate

Have you considered a metabolic rate test? It calculates how many calories you need to consume if you do nothing at all. You can use it to figure out how many calories you need to lose/gain weight, etc. I had this test done at my nutritionist and it told me so much!
BTW, it was covered under my insurance but I had it done in Manhattan, let me know if you are interested in a rec.

I find that I lose the most weight when I lower my carbs.
I'm not a big breakfast person so I usually just have coffee or tea in the morning.
Lunch: salad with 4 oz. of turkey or grilled chicken, or tuna prepared with mustard. Sometimes I'll do turkey and lettuce roll-ups with mustard.
Dinner: some type of grilled chicken: topped with spinach, tomato and mozzarella..marinated in basalmic..topped with salsa..marinated in hot sauce, etc. Turkey burgers, tukey stuffed peppers, turkey chili, turkey sloppy joes. Basically, I always have ground tukey and chicken breasts in my freezer! LOL I always make a vegetable on the side, my favorites are broiled asparagus and zoodles.
Snacks: string cheese, pepperoni, baby carrots, celery, fruit.
I use myfitnesspal to keep track of my calories and I weigh EVERYTHING on my food scale.

Thanks ladies. This definitely helps. racheK thanks for the idea. I do have a nutritionist that I met with but never discussed the metabolic rate test but I saw her for a different reason. I'll mention it to her.

Just chiming in to say that it's not just what you eat, but the amounts.
I know that I am a relatively healthy, clean eater... I love fruits and veggies, I cook a lot at home, and I strive to avoid a lot if processed food. I am not really one to eat junk food or fast food. But at times I have been overweight and needed to lose weight bc I over indulged in portion sizes. And I have a weakness for wine and good cheese! But now, to maintain my weight, I focus not just on eating healthy foods, but also on how much I am eating. So I use a food scale for a lot of things when I am at home, and am mindful of serving sizes.
I know a lot of people eat healthy foods like almonds and avocados with reckless abandon, but while healthy, they are also caloric, so I do really watch the portions (I'll buy 100 calorie packs if almonds or weigh them out in grams).
As far as what I eat on a daily basis -
Today I had a broccoli and cheddar omelet with a clementine and coffee for breakfast
Just had a peanut butter sandwich, a lowfat Greek yogurt, an apple, and green tea for lunch
Snack will likely be baby carrots and hummus or a 100 cal pack of Wholly Guacamole
Dinner - I have to take DS to a bowling party so I likely will eat pizza there, but try to limit it to 1-2 slices.
At night, I usually have a cup of tea and if I feel I need to have something with it, I sometimes have a square of dark chocolate, or fruit.
