Role of Godmother
I'm honored that my best friend just asked me to be her son's godmother.. the christening is in 3 weeks.. she asked so last minute bc I'm not catholic and she had to make sure it's okay with the church. I have no idea what my role is as a godmother though. Do I have responsibilities leading up to the christening? Things I need to buy???

Role of Godmother
The god mother usually buys the outfit and depending upon tradition the cross with the godfather. I would just ask as it's so last min. Have fun

In my family the godparents are not expected to buy anything and just be there.

In my family the godmother buys the outfit and the godfather buys the cross. That is how the godparents of both of my boys coordinated it, and what I have done when asked. But everyone has different traditions so I would ask.

Same here. But we also have a family gown that all the kids in our family wear.

Usually th outfit but you can ask your friend. They may already have family customs.
If you don't have to buy the outfit, I'd get some sort of sentimental gift, maybe a small ring or something, as the godfather usually gets the cross.

I think usually the Godmother pays for the baptism outfit. DD's Godmother actually went out and picked it out herself, I didn't even see it until that morning. That was a new one for me but she was so excited about doing it and I didn't mind.
Your main role is to guide the child in living the faith throughout his/her life.

Thanks. She had said to me "what day is good to go shopping for the outfit?" which is what sparked the question in the first place. But I felt bad asking her "should I be paying?" bc I don't mind, I am just clueless.
