I didn't do a cake smash shoot but for the one for DD to smash and eat on her first birthday I just bought the tiny round cake at S&S.
They have them out all the time.

Im doing a 1st bday shoot -- and honestly was going to skip the smash, but it was included in the time, so why not. I do not need a big fancy cake for it. He is going to smash it in a second. lol

Whole foods. Needed dairy free. Ordered in advance. Gave a picture of what I wanted. Came out nice.

For the 1st 2 I bought a small cake from waldbaums or stop and shop. Just white icing with colored sprinkles.
For DD3 I had one made by Dawn Olson. She is on FB

I made the Wilton "1" cake mold and did it myself. So glad I did because dd just screamed through the cake smash part of the shoot and never even touched the cake! DH was thrilled he had a cake to take home!
