Natural cold remedies for toddler?
DS is 2 1/2 and started daycare for the first time on September 2nd. Since then, he has been sick pretty much the entire time (bad cough, runny nose, lots of congestion, loss of appetite). He just finished a 10 day course of Amoxicillin on Saturday, and was back at the ped. today because he had a slight wheeze. Ped. said there's not much to do now except the usual - humidifier, baby rub, steamy shower, suction nose.
Does anyone have any home remedies that they recommend? It suck s to see DS sick for so long. He's only had one cold in the past 2 years, so I have no idea what works/doesnt work. His last cold went away in 3 days. Thanks so much!

Natural cold remedies for toddler?
Hyland cold tablets. They actually work. Just gave them to dd and it wiped her cold out. I was actually surprised.

Just looked through it. Thank you. But does this work when he is already so sick? He had a low grade temp. this morning and his breathing is a little shallow.

DH bought this once and I poo pooed it thinking it would be homeopathic BS. But surprisingly it worked amazing! Stopped her symptoms so she slept all night. All natural- no drugs- safe for ages 2 and up.

Re: Natural cold remedies for toddler?
I picked up Elderberry syrup today at CVS to try for DS (he has had a cold on and off for weeks) since so many people seemed to have great things to say.

That's funny, I had bought these a couple of months ago in anticipation of him getting sick but now I can't find them anywhere! As soon as I buy another pack, I know I'll find the missing ones lol.

Elderberry is great for preventing sickness and maybe shortening the duration once you have something ,but it really does nothing for immediate symptom relief

Natural cold remedies for toddler?
I never did anything but suck out boogies when he was young but now he can blow his nose.
This will def not be the last of the cods. My ds' first year in daycare had a cold at lease once a month and sometimes more often.

I know... everyone warned me! I was expecting colds, but he's so congested that the second he goes to sleep, he wakes up in a coughing fit.

Hylands and chestal both work. Chestal has honey in it. Sucking his nose and also use a saline spray every night. Even when not sick. After daycare I change my dd's clothes as soon as possible and wash her hands. Elderberry may help lessen the symptoms but will help with supporting the immune system to fight off germs. Kids are gross!

Re: Natural cold remedies for toddler?
I did the Vicks plug-in, Vicks on bottom of feet, elevated mattress, humidifier in room, saline and snot sucker.
I went to CVS and the pharmacist was adamant that I don't use the Hyland's b/c it's not FDA approved.

This is good to know! I've wondered about the Hyland's cold medicine. I'll be picking some up next time I go to the store so I have it on hand when they get their first cold of the school season!

None of those natural "meds" are FDA approved bc they're not medicine, instead a blend of honey and herbs.
The teething tablets had a ban a whole back bc of the level of Bella donna. They lowered it and not it's back on the market. I swear they helped so much with teething before I discovered the amber we thing necklace.

I like the Zarbees brand products. My Dr recommended the cough syrup to me...it's basically honey and vitamin c.
You could also try to boost his immune system with home made chicken soup (I swear this works for us!) and honey & lemon "tea"-just mix freshed squeezed lemon with honey and add warm water. I recently did this for DD and she loved it.

Honey and lemon is great! And for adults try a honey lemon and apple cider vinegar "shot" when you feel sick 3x a day and it helps so much. I tell myself it is better than tequila! I use organic raw honey from tjs and braggs apple cider vinegar with the "mother".
