Gaylord Palms ICE Event in DC Area
Has anyone been to this? Did your kids enjoy it? Was it mobbed? It looks really fun, and I found an "early bird" rate so I booked it to go just prior to Christmas.

Gaylord Palms ICE Event in DC Area
I went last December (just before Christmas too). It's FREEZING but awesome! My niece who was 6 at the time loved it. Busy but not crazy mobbed at all. They do give you a jacket to wear over yours but make sure you do bundle up.

Great!!
Do you HAVE to wear their jacket? I have an aversion to putting things on my kids that have been worn by other people without being washed first LOL

Yes you must wear it. It goes over your coats.

Ugh...might have to nix it LOL. Head Lice, bed bugs, etc. that could be lingering on other people's coats then crawling onto the borrowed ones just skeeves me. Yes I know, I have issues LOL

Gaylord Palms ICE Event in DC Area
We want last year to the one at the gaylord opryland. Wasn't worth the money IMO. The ice sculptures are cool, but you can see the whole thing in 15 minutes.

Well the site says they don't just offer that. There is Gingerbread making and a visit with Gingy, Santa pictures, a Dreamworks Character breakfast, an an evening show where it snows. Looks really cute, but I'm not sold on wearing the coats LOL

Re: Gaylord Palms ICE Event in DC Area
We live in the DC area. DH is cheap and didn't want to pay for the actual ice show. It is overpriced for what it is. However, we have gone to the Gaylord and National Harbor area for the holidays every ear for the past 3 years. Convention center is beautiful (great for pics), kids ride the holiday train, enjoy the scenery, etc. The gingerbread house area is very cute. We have bought the houses two times and one year did the gingerbread men. They also have a character meal that we also did not do.

You can do all the above without doing the Ice show. Our first year, we made the mistake of buying some package. I learned you can do everything a la carte once you arrive.

I saw that each thing is priced out separate. There is a really good rate for Marriott Platinum members right now, so we might just book a room only vs. the ICE package. How far is it to the DC attractions? Or are there other kid friendly things to do near that hotel, other than the Aquarium?

National Harbor is super close to DC's Mall where all the monuments and Smithsonian museums are. I would recommend the Air and Space and Museum of Natural History. The Children's Museum is in National Harbor but it is not that great.
DC does not have an aquarium. Baltimore, which is approximately 1 hour away, has an excellent aquarium as well as an awesome children's museum (Port Discovery) and Maryland Science Center.
Assuming you are driving down to DC, it may be worth it to stop by Philly on the drive down and Baltimore on the drive back up to NY. We often break up the drive to NY and do this. My BIL lives in Baltimore though and my best friend lives in Philly. We like to do dinner in Baltimore and often stop by Adventure Aquarium by Philly on the drive up.

I've gone to then Orlando ICE exhibit. It's cute, but it's fun for about an hour. That's it. Yes you do need to wear their coat, it's absolutely frigid in there.
