Do Disney resorts usually have cancellations the way meals get cancelled?
We decided to tag along with DH to his Orlando conference after all. We must have waited too long because practically everything is sold out. I really wanted to be on the monorail or at least on the boat route to Epcot/Hollywood Studios but everything is sold out. I'm going to be spending half days alone with the kids so having easy transportation is important.
Do people cancel their resort reservations the way meals get cancelled?
I really prefer not to stay at Caribbean Resort or off site. I hated the buses the last time we went.
Polynesian is the only resort available but there is construction. Not sure if we should just stay there with the construction.

Did you try Orbitz? Sometimes they show availability when Disney doesn't. Disney has a 5 day cancellation policy on a room only, so if people are going to cancel a room only without penalty, they have to do it before then.

I just checked and the same ones seem to be available. It looks like it will be between Animal Lodge and Polynesian.
Not even Dolphin and Swan have availability!
I feel like the crowd predictors are directing more traffic to weeks that are supposed to not be crowded. Depending on the source, the first week of Dec is supposed to be the #1 week to go to Disney.

First week of December is typically Pop Warner time, so you will get those crowds. We went the year before last on 12/14-18th and it wasn't busy at all! I would do the Poly over the AK though, simply so you don't have to take the buses!

I just called Disney and was told that some people may cancel around 45 days prior because that is when you lose your deposit.
I may look into some of the downtown Disney hotels. That doesn't really help me with transportation.
I absolutely hated buses. Don't plan on renting 2 cars either.

Packages are 45 days, room only is 5. So I wouldn't give up hope. I would actually book a room only, get your tix from USSSA that way if something opens up at your first choice hotel, you can change your ressie with no penalty up to 5 days before.

I ended up splitting the hotel stays. Got 2 nights at Boardwalk and 2 nights at Grand Floridian. Looks like I will be spending a lot of time solo at Epcot. That is the park I feel the least amount of stress at so I think it will work out.

First week of Dec is #1 for the least busiest time in Disney....if that even exists!
I will be there that week, staying at Boardwalk
Have you also tried going through Davids Vacation Club renting points? They always run last minute deals and you might get lucky.

Exactly! It is supposed to be super slow but all the hotels were sold out. I was wondering if the crowd levels were being altered because various sources stated that this first week of December is such an ideal time to go.
eta: I shouldn't say that all the hotels are sold out because there are plenty of value resorts available. all the hotels with direct monorail/boat transportation are sold out.

I was worried about the same thing when we went during the "sixth best week". All the hotels I wanted were booked and dining reservations were scarce. I guess it's always busy, just less so at some times.

Davids only does deluxe and moderate I think, no value. I would call and check it out.
