Checking Infant carrier on Airplane
We are traveling to California with our kids, and my 8 month old is flying as a lap infant. How do I check her infant carrier/base? I see travel bags for convertable seats, and I have one for my older daughter, but I dont see anything for the carrier. What do I put it in? Thanks!

Checking a car seat is not recommended as it then gives your seat an unknown history. When out of your sight you will not know how the seat was treated and if it encounters any impact that may damage it. With an unknown history your seat may not perform properly in the event of an accident if there is damage unnoticeable to the naked eye.
If your older daughter has a seat on the plane bring her car seat on the plane and install it. It is the safest way for her to travel. The FAA recommends that all passengers regardless of age to have a seat.
My suggestion to you would be to bring your infant seat to the gate with you. See if there is an empty seat on the flight and if you would be able to use it for the baby. If not, I would gate check the car seat, And although that too will give the seat an unknown history, chances are it will be treated better than if you were to check it as luggage.

Ok. Thanks. However it's just not possible to even carry it all through the airport so it's being checked. Does anyone know if they sell a case?

We used the snap n go and folded the stroller part and put the carrier in the bag used for convertible seats. It fit fine. Gate checked both.

I have checked my convertible a few times.
I would buy a convertible seat bag and use that and then you have it for the future.

We flew with DD multiple times when she was still using the infant car seat (including a trip to CA) and although we only gate checked it, we bought a convertible seat bag and used that. The only thing I noticed though was that bag didn't hold up at all. I think we got the Jeep brand bag. After the first use, the strap broke, next trip, it was returned with a hole, etc. So even just gate checking, these things get banged up. Or it was just a really crappy bag.
