Ok so tell me is 6yrs one of 'those' years of rebellion spikes?
My god I was furious at AJ last night. Out of NO WHERE my generally easy going 6 yr old flipped her lid.
Me: Time to go brush your teeth, pause your movie so you can come back to it Her: No Me: EXCUSE ME?! Her: I said... No (hubby is now looking for cover) Me: I didn't ASK you, I told you, go brush your teeth Her: Why? Me: Because I said so? Her: I don't feel like it Me: I'm going to ask nicely only one more time.. Please go brush your teeth, you had chocolate, ice cream and peanut butter today and you KNOW you brush your teeth to keep them healthy, please.. go brush your teeth. Her: I don't want to, so no. Me: What?! Her: I want to know why I have to Me: I told you. Her: No but WHY do I have to brush my teeth if I don't want to. Me: Ok... I'm going to ask one more time.. oh wait.. I already asked nicely once (Stand up furious and head towards her) I am DONE asking... Her: OK OK OK OK OK I'll do it! FINE I just want to know WHY!!! Me: brush your teeth NOW and do not ask me why anymore.
I am so angry that I can't look at her so Jim handles the toothpaste and watching her part. She acts like for all the world she's right and I'm wrong.
Later.. Me: do you know why we are upset? Her: No, I don't know why I have to do things you tell me to do Me: because it keeps your teeth clean, AJ and because we are your parents, we tell you to do stuff because its for your own good. Her: I know that, that's all I wanted to know was WHY Me: I had already answered you Her: (sarcastically) Fine so I will say I'm sorry. See I'm sorry is that enough for you? Me: NO its not when its insincere. Said like that its RUDE and mean! Don't ever say sorry unless you mean it! Go to bed now, no TV, no toys, no tucking in, no story, no lights, no flashlight. Bed, NOW! Her: *shrug* - "Fine"
Dear lord help me. I won't survive her Teenage years!
Woke up this morning just fine. Brush your teeth? no biggie she just did it. Like yesterday was her possessed by some alien creature.
PLEASE tell me I didn't just lose my otherwise well behaved, lovable, kiddo!
ETA 72 views.. no responses.. LOL Guess my kid really is just having a moment that will pass. Or I'm VERY spoiled with her cause honestly this was so completely out of character for her. She never rebels, not like this. Just huffs puffs sighs but never a direct challenge. Guess I should be so lucky right? OK 'fine'
Here's to hoping she stays level.

I'm dealing with that rebellion at a year and a half. DS is a giant pain in the a$$ when it comes to brushing (or anything I ask him to do nowadays!). I'm not anticipating teenage years either!

Yes, every parent I talk to with 6/7 year olds has the same issue, myself included. I don't like it one bit! I get the foot stomping and the "well..." and sometimes total rudeness. I shut it down real fast, and make her sit on her bed, or cancel whatever fun activity we were going to do that day

I am going through the exact same thing. DD is 6 1/2. She has become such a brat in the oast 2 months. At first, I thought it was because she was starting 1rst grade in a new school. Now, I think it is the age. I have had alot of discussions with her recently on her behavior.

7 yr old going on 8 and still having issues. Heard that this will all pass by 24 yrs. *hugs*. In all seriousness, the my house, my rules goes. I take away screen/iPad time, which "hurts" the most.
ETA: brushing teeth is a toughie b/c they can't see the outcome right away of NOT brushing their teeth. My DS has to read every night for school and then we sign a reading log. Occ he will give us a hard time about completing it. I say okay, that's fine. I just won't sign your log and you can explain to your teacher. Amazingly that works. God forbid they upset the teacher, right? I truly do not get it!!! Lol

LOL @ 24yrs
Well see the brushing thing is tough even more so because she had 4 teeth pulled and two caps put in (silver teeth) because of crowding. She took good care of her teeth but just not flossing. She's not a candy junky and drinks only water (still). So if I say: "If you don't brush your teeth...." its hard to finish it. I just say that the dentist will be disappointed and her teeth will hurt. I don't want her to think she didn't brush well enough and that's why she had all that work done. WORSE, I *KNOW* She's going to need more work done due to lack of space. She will have braces as well. None of that is her 'fault'. ya know?
I just posted about 1st grade homework so adding that to this will be even stressful to us.
Get this.. she was nervous or scared I'd pick her up and take her to the bathroom (because yes, that is what I would have done) I asked nicely once and only once that's it. You don't move your arss, I'll move it for you.
