5 month old sleeping - any insight?

My ds has been an erratic sleeper now for 2 months, but the last two nights have been literally pushing me over the edge.

For the last four weeks, he's been asleep between 7:30-8. He then wakes up between 0-3 times starting at 1:30 am. The only way to get him back to sleep is to nurse him. I've tried rocking, singing, pacifier, etcetera, but to no avail. The last two nights have been awful. Sleep at 7:30. Up at 8:30. Up at 10:15. Up at 1. There is no way he is hungry - he just nursed for 30+ minutes, but my son is definitely always willing to nurse. I seriously can not take it. I cannot keep functioning like this.

Any suggestions? I gave him Tylenol at 11, but he was up again at 1 so it didn't really help....

Could he possibly be teething? It wouldn't explain the past 2 months, but maybe the last 2 days.

I was also going to mention teething
My 5 month seems to be fussy as well.

I wish I had something to help you, but I wanted to let you know that you're not alone. When my dd2 was five months old, her sleeping became exactly like you described. I tried letting her cry once she got a bit older, but honestly her sleep between months 5 and 12 was very interrupted. She would wake anywhere between once and four times a night and nursing for 5 minutes would at least make her pass out again and was quicker than yhe crying so most of the time I would just nurse. I figured she had a genuine need. I'm really sorry you're going through this but I promise it won't last forever, even though it feels like it

IMO sleep patterns change when they are so young. Anything can change it. Teething, learning something new, growth spurt.

At 5 months old I think you need to roll with it.

Believe me I understand lack of sleep. My ds never slept regularly at that age and I was back to work and working on maybe 3-4 hrs if I was lucky but you just get through it.

At 2:30 am after 5 wake ups, I put him in his swing and he slept til 7 am. Hopefully this waking every hour passes soon.... I can handle a few wake ups but every hour is excessive and I am thinking is teething related or he simply can not put himself back to sleep.
