BFing Question: Fast Let Down...
Past few days, we're dealing with me having a fast let down - so he gets aggravated because I think the milk is coming too fast and he's not able to drink it the way he normally does. This normally just happens on one of my breasts.
Any suggestions on how to alleviate this?
I've tried adding in pumping session, expressing a little bit before he starts, and also feeding him a tiny bit upright.

Re: BFing Question: Fast Let Down...
I wouldn't pump, bc that might encourage your body to keep making a lot of milk on that side.
I had this issue on my right side. I would latch DS on, wait for my letdown, unlatch DS, let it spill out into a burp cloth, and then re-latch DS. It eventually got better, but at times I'd have to nurse DS standing up/ rocking because he was frustrated on that side.
Good luck!

google block nursing and see if that strategy may work for you. that helped me when i had a fast letdown/over supply issue on both sides. i definitely wouldn't pump, as that won't help the situation at all and may make it worse.

Try nursing in a reclined chair. Sounds silly but I would sit in the chair with ds laying on me long ways instead of cradled. So he would be over the breast not under it. That helped slow the milk if the fast boon till he was old enough to keep up.

BFing Question: Fast Let Down...
Pumping extra will just keep your body producing more milk than your baby needs, which will make you keep having fast letdown. I would stop pumping on that side and only let your baby nurse. It might help to let him get started with that side for a few seconds then switch to the other side and hold a wash cloth up to catch any leakage. Then maybe when you switch back to that side it will not come out as fast. After a while your body will regulate to just make the amount of milk your child needs and that should take care of the fast letdown problem.

I would not pump or use a nipple shield. I would take baby off at the beginning of a let down and let the very fast flow go into a burp cloth (or a storage container) then once the strong let down passes relatch baby. Or nurse in a laid back/reclined position.

This was happening to me in the beginning while DD was in the nicu. The nurses told me to pump for a few minutes to let out the engorgement and then put DD on. It worked well for us.
