Tag along to DH's conference in Orlando or just go another time?
DH has an upcoming 3 day conference in Orlando. Conference is Wed-Fri in early December and not on site Disney. He would get 3 nights hotel, his flight and a rental car paid for. Although conference is off site, we could easily get on site Disney hotel paid for. DH would just have to spend the time driving to/from conference. I would be solo with our 2 kids (ages 3 and 5) for half the day while DH is at the conference. We would still have to pay for our 3 flights and park tickets.
Would you tag along for the conference or just go a different time?
At first I jumped at the idea but am unsure if this is a good idea since DH won't be with us for a large part of each day. If we did not tag along, DH would probably stay at the conference hotel for 1 night/2 days, attend a few workshops, get his continuing education credit, network with old colleagues and fly home.

Maybe if kids were older or you were going with another helper or friends I'd say go, but for this case I say another time. They're still young so go during an offseason time when it's less crowded. JMO We took our boys last year at 4 and 2. We had a blast and went with another family. Just a lot of walking around ans DH and I worked together bc he'd stay with one boy and I'd do the other on some rides. My 2 yr old was a wanderer too. He's better now at 3, but I'd still want to be eith DH there for the day.

I'd go. At the resort on property you can do stuff without going into the parks. Then later when he's back take them into the parks. At that age they won't care how long you spend. And the 3 year old is still free.
Seems to me a cheap way to get a mini vacation in so why not?

I may try to go Fri-Sun and DH can go Th-Sun. We have to pull DS out of kindergarten for this.
Not sure how the hotel reimbursement would go for that.

Meh, I'd do another time. I'm going to stay on site for a conference in January and it never occurred to me to take DH and DS. I'm there for work and I'll go with my family another time.

i would probably go if the on site hotel would be paid for and if you can extend through Sunday so that your DH can spend time with the kids during the day
theres a possibility i have to go to California next year for work, and i was already thinking about extending and having DH and the kids join me

This. If the hotel would be paid for already then I would go and just extend your time there if possible when DH's conference ends.

Can you get a monorail hotel? To me that makes a HUGE difference to be able to just hop on the monorail and be at your room. We were just in Disney and it was such a PITA to have to move sleeping kids and fold up the stroller for the buses, not to mention how much longer it takes to get to and from the parks.
You know your kids . . . Do you think you can manage them in Disney alone? To me that sounds scary but my kids are 1 and 3. Maybe in 2 years it would be doable but I can't really say since we're not there yet. You could always hang at the hotel while DH is at his conference, but again, would you feel comfortable with the two of them at the pool alone?
It would be a tough decision for me. I'd really have to weigh if all the travel hassle and whatnot would be worth the amount of time we'd actually get to enjoy the vacation.

I do a lot alone w/ the kids - a LOT. But for our June trip DH got called back to work the day after we arrived .......my Mom flew down with me. My boys are also 3 & 5 and very well behaved with me - but while I'd have no problem taking them anywhere w/o Dh (or any help really) Disney, is just NOT the place to handle two small kids alone. IMO
If they were 10 & 12 I'd say go for it ........

I also do a lot with my boys solo but Disney is in a league of its own. If we go Fri-Sun, I would only have to do a half day alone. DH could go to his conference all day Thursday and half day Friday. DH was never planning to attend the entire 3 day conference.
But then I'm not sure if the hotel for Fri and Sat would be covered. Not sure all this trouble would be worth one free hotel night. We can always stay at Dolphin/Swan for free using Starwood points.

Pretty sure we can get a Monorail hotel paid for. The question is will the weekend be paid for since the conference will be over. Of all his conferences, Orlando seems to be a cheap destination. I have tagged along previously but never the boys. I have only tagged along for the exact dates of the conference.
My kids are generally well behaved. They actually do much better when we are out vs when we are home where they fight non-stop.
I think I'd be fine except for bathrooms. Both my boys have the tendency to tell me they have to pee immediately. It is easy for one of us to bounce in and out of line with the kid who needs to go to the bathroom. It would be challenging if I'm solo with 2 kids.

I would just say forget it but this will probably be the only time we'd go to Disney during the next year or so. There is no way in hell that I'd brave the crowds of the school breaks and we already have trips booked for the off days we get for the school year.
DH isn't a big Disney fan to begin with so he wouldn't approve pulling DS out of kindergarten to go Disney anyways. I feel like our Disney days are numbered.

I would just go to the parks alone. But then again I've been taking my kids to Disney alone since my youngest was a year old. Your kids are old enough to not *need* another hand IMO. But obviously you only know your style best. AND, if your husband isn't a huge Disney fan, even better. You don't have to listen to him complain when you want to do x and he wants to do y
