Shingles vaccine and babies
Does anyone know if an adult gets the shingles vaccine if they have to stay away from babies? And for how long? My FIL is supposed to get the vaccine tomorrow and we are living with them right now. DS is 2 and dd is 11 months.

I never heard of staying away after the vaccine. Where did you hear this? My mom just got the vaccine and shes supposed to come sleep at my house this weekend.
Ive only heard if the person has shingles then they have to stay away especially if your child has not had the chicken pox vaccine.

It's a live virus and you have to worry about shedding.

Re: Shingles vaccine and babies
My mom just had the shingles vaccine last week and her doctor said she would have to stay away from my kids for 6 weeks UNLESS they both had the chicken pox vaccine which, thankfully, they both already did.
My kids didn't get the chicken pox vaccine until they were 15 months old so if your LO is under that age I would probably keep him/her away from whoever gets the shingles vaccine.

It is so crazy how every doctor says something different. I just spoke to my ped and she said that he could get the shot and that only 5% of people develop a rash around the injection site and if that happened then he would need to stay away from the baby. She said to have him get the shot bc it would be worse if he got shingles and was around the kids.

Yes. If baby has not had chicken pox/varicella vaccine or the virus itself. I'm not sure how long, but when MIL got the shingles vaccine, they told her to stay away from kids who have not had or been vaccinated against chicken pox.
