Has anyone been to a good pediatric orthopedic?
DD always says her right leg hurts. The other night she woke up crying inconsolably saying it doesn't stretch out My pediatrician recommended an orthopedic but after waiting on hold 15 minutes, I was transferred to a voice mail & haven't received a call back yet.

I went to him as well and thought his bedside manner was terrible. My son was only 3 and he was not overly pleasant at all. I did get the answers to my concerns, but wasn't that impressed. He did not break down the medical terms at all and was told that I would be given hand outs at the desk detailing his issue. Would have been nice if he shared that with me. That said, I have heard that he is very good.... my issue was more of just having him look at my son's flat feet and curvature on his legs, which he said at this.point is just developmental. Perhaps he takes more time with you for something more in depth. Overall, did not get the warm fuzzies from him at all.

Hospital for special surgery (part of Cornell) has an office in Uniondale. There is at least one pediatric ortho who comes to that office. I saw an excellent doctor at Columbia Presb but doubt you want to travel to NYC.

He is great!! He found a fracture that PM peds missed! He is a bit dry but if you engage him in conversation he is much better. He is just super focused and attentive.

Re: Has anyone been to a good pediatric orthopedic?
My son saw Dr. Raggio at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Uniondale as a third opinion and we loved her. She was extremely knowledgable, thorough and also great with my then 2 year old. He didn't end up needing surgery but we had follow ups with her for 2 years. I highly recommend her.

I will definitely look into them. I really didn't want to go to someone that wasn't recommended, thank you

I loved Dr. Gaffney. My DD is very doctor phobic and kicks and screams... he was patient and sweet and let her be evaluated by walking around and doing other movements before laying her down to examine her/freak out. I also found it easy to get an appointment. People like his associate in E. meadow, too but I have never been to him.

Dr. Carrion at SUNY Stony Brook! My daughter fractured her femur at a bounce party and he took very good care of her. We have follow-ups every year with him and we find him to be very thorough.

I saw Dr. Gaffney with DD. I was referred to dr lazar but she was on maternity. I felt like Gaffney was all business not too overly friendly but, I trust that he knows his stuff

Re: Has anyone been to a good pediatric orthopedic?
Gaffney actually made some mistakes diagnosing my daughter (which were confirmed at Hospital for Special Surgery). I would be happy to share with anyone who needs more info. It seems like it gets harder and harder to find good doctors these days.

We use the same group except we see Dr. Wallach. He actuallly did my spinal fusion when I broke my neck so a few years later when my daughter was born with hip displasia I knew I was going to take her to him. We actually just saw him today.
