Foam tiles - play mat

I want to make sure DD has a comfortable playzone in our finished basement this winter. We have vinyl plank flooring, which is cold and hard. I don't really want to do an area rug because we've had water issues in the past. I've seen some pics online where people have a very large area covered in foam tiles. Does anyone have any experience with those? Are they comfortable and easy to clean? Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

We have the larger sized ones which I like bc DD doesn't pull them up like my friend's kids do with the small puzzle type ones. We got a few sets at HD. I run the vacuum over them with the rotating brush off and then spot clean with a little spray or even mop them with my spray mop. I wouldn't say they're spotless but it's clean enough for me!

Loved having them for DD to sit and play on the hardwood floor, esp when she was just learning to sit. We had the alphabet tiles by EduShape. They were pretty cushy and comfy. I'd vacuum over them for the most part, and spot clean them as needed. Occasionally I did break them down and wash them off in the bath tub, but not often.

We have the alphabet/numbers one from BBB. DS likes to pull it apart, but he's also learning his letters from it, so I like it.

I have THIS ONE on my hardwood floor. I only have one set, but eventually might buy one more. DD is just starting to pull off the ends, but it's a lot easier than dealing with a million pieces. Super easy to clean, I run a light vacuum over it and spot clean with damp paper towels.

We have this in DS' room. He goes through phases of pulling them apart. Now he can put them back together so it's not as annoying. They are a pain to pick up and clean underneath, but good to play on. Spot cleaning is easy as well. They're not super foamy/soft so even when my DS was learning to sit/walk, it hurt when he fell, just an FYI.

I have large foam tiles in my home gym.. They're great. So easy to clean and extra cushy. Got them on eBay...much cheaper than any retail stores.

We have the skip hop in the playroom and the alphabet in my office. They are easy to wipe up to clean.

Re: Foam tiles - play mat

I used the bru alphabet foam letters to cover hardwood floor in my ds playroom. I loves the idea and look of it initially. But I have a dog which I tried to keep out as much as possible but dog hair and sand would get trapped under the letters. I separated all of them and cleaned under each letter once. I decided that it was way too much work and time consuming so I got rid of them. If you dont have a dog I think it would work out better.
